Interesting read going here. I never have any trokar issues except for the very tip end bending, I fixed that by keeping a small file on board. I feel my hookup ratio increased when I switched to trokar...as well my wife and son were losing fish after hooking them but I switched them to Trokars and I've been netting a lot more fish for them. I'll buy any Trokars ...don't throw them away. I know there not for everyone so pm me a good price. Thanks

Gami and heavy mustad are what I like I have straightened a few light wire gami out but that was my fault. I just can't justify the cost of trokar they are not that much better of a hook to me. I think it all depends on your hook set or your style. Not bad mouthing the trokar they are just not for me . They do have a cool name and look though!

I had the exact same issue. Fish coming off about halfway to the boat, and the few that I did land would have a hole in their head cut so big I could stick my finger through it. I trashed them all immediately.

I picked some up at Academy on sale and tried them for the first time Sunday. I was using EWG 4/0 and lost my first two fish halfway back to the boat. Switched back to my old hooks and didn't lose another fish. I haven't tried the offset or flippin hooks yet but I wont be using their EWG anymore.

Never had the issue with owner. I think the trokar is still a great hook but its more of what you are comfortable with. Losing fish gets in your head and you start to question equipment when you need to just remember some will get away.

I would like to offer my services for the disposal of all unwanted Trokar...and will cover shipping...
Like Mr Perry stated, the hooks in the clamshell packaging (Gen 2) seem to be much better quality....and I have never had any issues with their flipping hooks...

I agree and Spring time for me anyway is when I get a lot of bites and come back with half a worm or the pinchers bit off. It seems that during the spawn a lot of times they just don't eat the bait as well. I assume its because they may be trying to carry the bait off of a bed or potential bed rather than eat it Like Mark said I too have only used the Trokar Flipping Hooks and they are awesome in my opinion. Ive tried the Gammys in the same style and they work great as well but the bait keeper is only good for a few fish before it breaks and that drives me nuts having a perfectly good hook thats not usable after a short time.

Hmm. I don't seem to have any issues with the trokar hooks. I don't set the hook like I'm trying to flip one over the boat though. My only problem is actually getting a fish to hit something I cast. I can usually get them in if I can get them to bite something.

This is why I quit using them.

Lotta haters on this thread. I think it's a bit much to blame a hook for what position in the mouth you set a hook. I mean, to blame a hook for skipping around in a mouth and skin hooking a lip...? I will say I have never been a great fan of Trokars until I tried their offset worm hook with the plastic keeper. The flipping hook is cool too. Before, the price was the chief deterrent, once I threw a Mag O'l Monster with this hook I was sold.
As far as the point being the cause of losing fish, I don't believe it and once the Trokar hook has penetrated, there should'nt be any additional blame for larger holes in lips. Does Trokar slice rather than punch through, yes but that's where it ends. Those that are losing fish or noticing some type of ripped skin anomely, check your hook set not the hook.
"If you've quit learn'n, you might'as well quit fish'n cuz yer not catch'n as many fish as ya should be!"

Trokar is an overpriced eagle claw.
To the guy breaking gamas...you must be a giant. I know I have caught 20+ double digit fish on regular wire gamakatsu hooks without ever breaking one.

Trokars are so sharp that you don't really have to set the hook as hard as you normally do.

I too moved away from the Trokar hooks. I was using their flipping hook until I started using the Gama heavy cover worm hook. I've got to use pliers to unstick it from the roof of their mouth whereas the trokar could just fall out most of the time.

They do seem to put a little bigger hole in the lip,but then again I dont see any perfect hooks.Gamakatsus are bad about breaking in half.Owner is really the better hook ,but cant find the size I want in those compared to the 6/0 trokar. I've been using Gamakatsus for over 20 years and have never had one break. How frequently have you broken one and on what setup? Have never broken a Gammy either.
