Anyone have a pictures of cart that will hold and roll their Kayak in the storage position? I store my Hobie Outback kayak indoors in my man cave which has a 36" door. Using the Hobie scupper cart, the kayak is a pain to get thru the door. To get thru the door, the yak has to turn sideways. I quickly adapted a $10 Harbor Freight dolly cart by adding a couple of straps. The straps hold the kayak on its side. However the small casters on the Harbor Freight dolly still don't handle the door threshold or my wood deck very well. I am planning on making something with bigger wheels. I like the idea of being able to store the kayak on the dolly and just wheel it on dolly out the door and to my truck. I was thinking maybe using 2 bicycle wheels. Something like this but narrower could work. http://www.wikihow.com/Build-a-Bicycle-Cargo-Trailer Has anyone already done this and have some photos? Would appreciate advice too.

I can text or email pics of my cart. It just slips over the bow, no straps.

It doesn't hold my yak on its side but one could be made easily to do just that.

On one kayak site, I saw a pix of a guy who took a standard furniture mover cart (pretty big wheels) and added 2x4's in the back, and shorter 2x4's in the front. Did exactly what you are describing. I believe he used a unit like this one. regards, Rich http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200403561_200403561?cm_mmc=Google-pla-_-Material%20Handling-_-Dollies%20%2B%20Movers-_-189322&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=189322&gclid=CKeulZLu4bYCFcud4Aodm3AAgg

Yes, that is like what I am using now, except mine has motorcycle tie down straps. It holds the kayak on its side great and moves easily around the man cave.
The downside is the small wheels like in your picture struggle with any uneven surface, grass, or dirt.

If you already have the cart, why not go to Harbor Frt or Northern Tool and buy bigger casters? Rich

I use two old office chairs... Padded... Works great and cheap too. Put a door mat over the threshold when you move it

A little wood n hardware and you're in bidness...

Thanks for all the suggestions folks.
I am going to start by putting 2 big 12 inch wheels from an old push mower with a 1/2" axle under my current furniture cart. That would be the quickest and easiest. It should continue to handle the kayak on its side, while more easily going in/out of the 36" shop door and rolling on grass/dirt.
If that doesn't do the trick, I will try to bend a conduit frame to fit.

What about a scuper cart? I'm sure you could make one that holds the yak on its side.

Christian, I hadn't thought of using the scupper holes. I am very careful with those holes cause I heard that is where the yak is easily damaged. I am kind of afraid to use them, but it would probably work if I did not use them to support the weight.
I appreciate all the ideas. I feel like now I have more options to try.
