I am am about to install a Lowrance LSS2 and need some thoughts on mounting the transducer to the inside or outside of the jack-plate. I figure I can drill and tap the front of the back jack plate (that mounts to the transom) and then I don't have to worry about putting any holes in the actual boat. The boat has dual power poles on it. What are your thoughts? I am open for other suggestions to (not doing this until Wednesday) if you can send a picture of how you have it mounted that would be great too.

Thanks.

My concern is if the transducer will be in the way when the motor is all the way down. My jackplate is 6" vs. the transducer being 10" long. Guess I will have to do a "mock" up to make sure everything clears before I start drilling into stuff.

Did you buy the L-bracket and mounting hardware to mount it on your jack plate? I just mounted one for a buddy's huminbird side scan using this set up. It was a clean install but required both drilling and tapping to mount it.

I mounted my structure scan transducer to the pad on my Ranger, I used screws shorter than the thickness of the hull so as not to drill completely through. It uses 8 screws if I remember correctly and is still secure after bumping over many stumps in the past year.

Transducer Shield/Saver makes a mount and L bracket which you can mount to the side of your jackplate. I installed one on my rig (although it's for an HBird) and it's worked flawlessly. Might want to check them out. Good luck.

I mounted my LSS-1 to the step using a Shield/Saver from Scap and Shirley.
