No sir. I use this pattern for sight casting to carp on shallow flats. I guess they think its a small crayfish but I have more takes on this pattern then I do anything else ( and that's probably because its what I throw most of the time).

How fast does it sink? All of mine that I tie I either use wrap with lead around hook or heavy eyes. From my experience it needs to get down fast and in the strike zone as quick as possible

Bowfishing sucks

It sinks slowly but I'm fishing water that's less that two feet deep so it works fine. At least the carp seem ok. with it.

I fish flats 2x a week for carp durning the summer, I found my catch rate went way up if I get the fly into the feeding area in front of the carp faster. Here is one f my most successful carp patterns

Great looking fly Lone Star! I have a Redfish fly that's looks similar to that. May have to tie one up in a carp version.
I know what you are saying and I agree but, when I find fish crusing a shoreline with back out of the water or just on a very shallow flat I can drop this fly very close to them without making that " plop" that a lot of weighted flies tend to make( I noticed your fly has a lot of material around the eyes and it probably enters the water very quietly - I like that). And, since my fly isn't weighted, I don't get tangled up on the bottom ( some of the flats I fish have a lot grass and sticks on the bottom). I do fish a weight fly when I'm fishing deeper water and or a smooth bottom.
Do you have a name for your fly?

I lived in Montana for a few months and fly fished for these guys regularly, my top flies were the muddler when they were on top and a heavier wooly worm when they were cruising the bottom feeding. black and orange or black and yellow were the colors i caught the most on for the wooly worms
