Sorry for the late post but on Friday 4/19 me and my buddy went up hickory creek trolling for sand bass but didn't hook into any. (probably because of the rain). as we pulled into this large shallow bend we discovered schools of hybrids spawning in clusters of 2 to 6. Coming up to the surface and splashing. I didn't think Hybrids did this, I never knew they spawned. I hooked into an 8.5 lb one by accident with a rattle trap. reeled it in and saw that I had foul hooked it by accident. lost two other Rattle traps before this on snags. Do Hybrids really spawn? i thought they couldnt...

They are functionally sterile. I just had this question answered by a friend. They can spawn and act out the motions but the eggs are week and the spawn are week. They need to be cultivated in Hatcheries for success it seems. I would think there instincts still drive them to do the spawn but it is often fruitless... Where were u at Hickory, upstream past old alton bridge or downstream by 2499 bridge?
I only fish on days that end in Y!

They reproduce but usually with one of the parent species, i.e. backcross. No doubt a weak spawn compared to white bass, but enough of a worry they don't stock them in the NE for the fear that they will crossback with stripers.

We were about a quarter mile down from old Alton, went back down there yesterday and trolled for a while and didnt get a bite
