I've read that Sabine Lake is great for speckled trout and red fish. I've never fished in this part of the state before and was wondering what kinds of tips I can get from those that have. I don't have a boat, so I'm looking for a spot where I can fish from the bank or a pier.

only a couple wading spots from the bank off of south levee entrance and lake front drive. I think there is a pier close to the cuaseway. The jetty is another option if you can get out there...but don't know if thats possible anymore.

For the next couple of months the north and south levee revetment walls will be hot when winds are light especially in the AM. Excellent fishing with artificials (topwaters - SheDogs, Skitterwalks, Jerkbaits - Yozuri's, Suspending - Maniac Mullet, Crazy Croaker and Corkies, Gulp, DOA Shrimp, and live shrimp under a cork). This area is easily accessilbe by car, a little tricky for some standing on the rocks, but can be hit or miss. When its on its on. If your not from the area call Daleys Hunt and Fish in Port Arthur and speak with Eric or Kieth (409)736-3999. They can give you the latest info as well as hook you up with the hot baits, good guys. Good luck.
