Has anyone had any experiences or head of any bank fishing in Sheldon Reservoir? Looks like a big swamp from the photos I've seen and that tells me it could hide some hawg bass in it. I'm already thinking about trying it next weekend wink

Very big bass in Sheldon, also very big gators.

Be careful, but you could hook the fish of a lifetime

There are some for sure giants in Sheldon. Not just bass. Giant catfish, crappie, bluegill, gar and bowfin also. Last time I was out there the piers were starting to show their age but they were still fishable. Watch out for the gators and have fun.

lake is really low right now avg depth right now 2 ft , avg bass in Sheldon 12 to 16 inches with occasional 5 to 8lb lake record is a little over 10 lbs set back in 2009 , down sides small prk lot boat ramp is a pain make sure you have extended mirrors ,piers need repairing only 2 are really fishable with kids in my opinion, numerous break ins to vehicles. not located in the best part of town and little or no police presence.last time I was on the lake 12 days ago someone took all the change we use for toll rd and my brother had his spare stolen , if your using boat headway speed only if you go faster or get on plane they will write you a ticket if you're caught. good luck and be careful.

Thanks for the tips! I'll probably check it out this coming weekend!

lake record is over 12lbs.

My AQ tues night tournament partner caught it, don't leave stuff visible in your vehicle to avoid breakins.

I have a love hate relationship with that lake, the fish move ALOT. some times you catch one-two fish, sometimes you tear them up with the average being over 6lbs.

It's a tough lake to fish, and a very good chance of getting your vehicle broken into, but the chance for an 8+ is the highest in the local area.

the lake record is 10.06. His fish was not 12 lbs. Even though I'm sure he wished it was.

I agree with the love hate for that lake.
And I guess I a have been fortunate with the vehicle situation. I usually take everything out and leave it unlocked. Sometimes with the windows down just to make sure I don't get a busted lock or window.

Is it really that bad of an area? I understand not leaving anything in it, but leaving it unlocked with windows down so you don't get them busted? That sounds like a pretty rough area...

It's been that bad before. I do that just as a precaution. It can be pretty bad and the area isn't the greatest.

Now I'm starting to question going since I'll be alone haha. Is it just car breakins you have to worry about, or do I have to worry about people bothering me out on the trails as well?

It has only been the cars. Never heard of anyone being approached by anyone

Ok! Good to hear. That's what I figured but I wanted to make sure. I'm 5' 9", 160, so I don't scare anyone hahaha.

I've never had any trouble there, but you do need to watch out for the gators and snakes now that it is warming up

I love fishing Sheldon. If the grass is already growing in thick then throw a frog early and late, but you better hold on tight. Never fished it from the bank though. And yes, there are some monster gators in the back of Sheldon.
