Rubber net that has a shallow and flat bottom--don't need a deep net for crappie. And keep it small. After all, most of the time it's just laying around your feet. IMO, net only needs to be big enough to get just over half of the fish in it. But I do keep a large back up net under the console thumb

Unless, of course, you have a big boat. May as well go big then grin

Rubber is less trouble and I have both but the regular mesh is smaller so it goesmost of the time. Sadly I haven't had to use a net in years, and I wonder if it's realy just a jinx for me. Kiddos most of the time try to reel em on thru the first three guides. I guess they like crappie spaghetti. Poor things are locked against the rod tip and caint move a muscle.
Watching crappieMasters, those spider riggin dudes have the longest nets I ever seen!

Same as Skip and Ernest, I have no complaints with my EGO reach rubber net. That said, I did have to replace the one rivet that held the net/loop to the handle, it was loose and the net/loop fell off. I replaced the one rivet with two, haven't had a problem since.

will tell you why I got started on rubber nets. A number of years back we were doing a lot of night fishing and one time I decided to try setting up a line with a drop shot style rig while using a minnow. Well as you guys probably know that puts the sinker on the bottom (and this was before I started using a jig on bottom) and the hook up the line 12" to 18" and every time I got a fish that needed a net that darn sinker would get really tangled in the net and of course the hook didn't help either. After reading up on it a little I decided to get a rubber net to try and all of a sudden all my problems were solved. Only problem then was that net was heavy as heck, but still worth that just to keep the tangles from happening.

Then when Jay Don had their grand opening I went to see them and support their business. That is when I first saw the EGO net and it was so much lighter than the one I had, I had to buy one on the spot and am still using that one. My other one sat on my dock ever since then until this year when I let my neighbor use it until he gets a better one. That old one feels like someone put lead in the handle, LOL!
