My better half has been losing a lot of weight due to a week long bout of a bad stomach virus followed by extensive dental work and new dentures. At 5'2" and normal wt of +- 110 she is now at 87#. Dr told her yesterday that she needs to pick up some wt. What would you recomend for her to eat in order to gain 10 - 15 pounds?

Make sure she gets a lot of carbs especially with bread products. Dinner rolls, bisquits with sausage gravy, cinnamon rolls, etc... Believe me I know waht makes the weight accumulate!
At least my boat and truck are paid for, woo hoo!

Protein supplements like ensure, whey powder, make her some smoothies. If she still has dental pain anything soft or that she can drink would be good and easier to take. For a smoothie you can use about any fruit she likes, add some nuts like cashews, walnuts, macadamia etc, ice cream/yougurt and get some serious calories in the blend. Good luck, hope she gets back to normal soon.

not good for the liver and digestive system to just start piling on pounds of fatty junk food and fast food. consult a nutritionist or look online for healthy ways to gain weight. my suggestion would be to just eat, don't stop eating. buttered toast with ham and cheese omelet in the morning, drink milk, then snack on granola. eat a full lunch, snack on crackers with those mini cheese wheels, those are great snacks. dinner could be meat and carbs like potatoes or pastas. also, make sure she gets plenty of vitamins, if she's focused on gaining weight, i'm sure she'll forget about all the other important green foods.

I'd be sneaking a little cream into the mashed potatoes instead of milk. Add in snacks throughout the day of stuff like fruit smoothies made with cream. Eggs are your friend for good easy protein. You want it to be healthy weight so it still needs to be good wholesome foods. Just snack throughout the day and then enjoy a good meal for supper too.
I can put weight on anybody but I cook like a lot of folks' grandma and great grandma. I don't believe in a bunch of shortcuts and premade meals. Meat, veg, and a starch is dinner. Dessert follows once in a blue moon.
Lots of fruit, add cream or half and half anywhere you would add milk, use real butter - not margarine or the fake stuff. Honest sized portions - don't overstuff and make yourself miserable, but make sure you get enough, and snack on goodies throughout the day.
Stay away from the prepackaged nonsense as much as you can. That's unhealthy and especially when you're trying to put on weight from having issues. Good snacks is fresh fruit with a bit of whole (NOT FAT FREE or anything lite or low carb) yogurt, cheeses, Oh if you can find it, something that would be marvelous and would help is Double Cream or Devon Clotted Cream. I know HEB and Central Market carries it. Its good on scones or bagels or on fruit or all kinds of things. Get just a little bit and try it.

she just needs to start eating normal again, a bad flu is gonna make you lose weight.
liquid diets like shakes/smoothies will help suppliment her typical diet. dont' go feed her a bunch of bullchit like fast food and ice cream/sweet snacks.
I came down with a really bad virus my senior year of highschool, was bedridden for almost two weeks and went from 140 lbs to 118 lbs. when I went back to class i looked like an AIDS patient.
protein and calories are the key. as mentioned, peanut butter and jelly sandwhiches are a good weight gainer
