So being new to fishing Carp I see this cool looking bite alarms and wonder if they really help and aid in catching Carp OR are they more of an added luxury??

My normal setup is some type of pole holder with LIGHT drag and a bell on the tip.

But if the alarms really help I will look into getting one.

I would consider them a nice to have but not a requirement - unless you plan on fishing overnight and actually sleeping. I do believe they will help you catch more fish, as the bait runner does not always go off, especially with buffalo, and they will call your attention to the rod if it twitches enough.

PB Buff - 56lbs
PB Common - 26lbs
PB Mirror - 7lbs
PB Grasser - 45lbs
PB Koi - 10lbs

They're really handy to have, but not an absolute necessity. Like Nick said, if you plan on sleeping during a night session, they're a Godsend. You can get them pretty cheaply too, if you don't need the remote.

PB Common - 33.0 Pounds
PB Buffalo - 43.5 Pounds
PB Grasser - 43 Pounds
PB Mirror - 34.0 Pounds
PB Goldfish - 2 Ounces, caught with
