I am looking for your opinions of the best crappie net. I know this is a personal preference question but I am looking your thoughts before I go out and buy one. thanks,

If it's a net specifically for crappie, Bass Pro has three trout nets; one is 8.99, the other 19.99 and the more expensive one is 29.99. A really big crappie would be 18" or so and any of the aforementioned nets would easily hold a little 18" three pound fish. Now because you are fishing Fork and might accidentally hook one of their large cousins you might consider carrying a traditional landing net.

When we first started crappie fishing I didn't even carry a net but Ketchn gets all hysterical and hollers for the net all the time. He's also one of those big rod (10') heavy line (12#) for little fish guys. He finally had to break down and buy a net for my boat otherwise I still wouldn't use one.

Most of the above is just poking fun at my good friend, Ketchn. On a serious note consider the mesh on the net as it relates to the hook getting stuck in it. I really don't use a landing net much and I hate getting sidelined when the jig hook gets stuck in the mesh. But like anything else there are times when the right piece of equipment (like a landing net) comes in handy.

I just got a net with the normal mesh from either BPS or Academy, don't remember which. I HATE IT! It's OK for jig fish, but on a minnow rig, 1st you have to get the hook untangled, then the weight has wrapped around the mesh several times, by the time you get it loose, the hook is stuck again! This all relates to lost time fishing when they are biting as stated above. I used to have a rubber mesh net for bass fishing & am thinking about getting another for my little boat. They don't swoop thru the water fast as the rubber does not let water pass thru it as fast as the mesh, but your rigs don't tangle up it it.

EGO Rubber net, not heavy like most rubber nets and rubber nets will keep your hooks and rigging from getting all tangeled in the netting. Tboxfish this net will stop all that you hate about your net.

EGO Rubber net. Skip has the answer.

I'VE HAD MINE FOR OVER THREE YEARS AND RECENTLY HAD A PROBLEM WITH IT. I E-MAILED THEM AND THEY IMMEDIATELY MAILED ME A NEW NET. NO CHARGE. HOW'S THAT FOR GOOD SERVICE.

I prefer the longer handle for safety reasons. Some years ago, my fishing buddy was netting a crappie for me with a short handle net. As he leaned over the boat, the jig dislodged from the fish promptly embedded in his cheek.

I thought I should start buying my own equipment as I don't know how many trips you have left at your age.
