Evenin' Forum Folks!
Been awhile since I've ventured into the striped side of things, but it's good to be back. We've been chasing crappie for the last month, but with the recent rise in temperature, the hybrids have provided for a nice change of pace. The water temperature on the main lake was 67, and I saw water as warm as 73. Things ought to start getting combustible here very shortly.
The last two mornings have treated us very well, as we've casted large swim baits onto wind blown points. We're using 1/2 oz heads and three inch chartreuse or glow bodies, and retrieving the baits very quickly. All of our baits have been provided by Moe's Tackle. Thanks Moe for the good stuff!
We're catching our whites on main lake humps, in 12-16ft of water on one ounce chartreuse slabs and 1/2oz crappie jigs. The whites have been glued to the bottom, with most of our fish being no more than 6" to 12" up. We're catching them with the standard slabbing technique: hit the bottom, pick it up 6-12", hold for a brief few seconds, then slowly let it touch the bottom again.
I hope all is well TFF, and here's to a good spring. Hopefully I'll get a little more of this hybrid inspiration, and can get on over here on the striped side of things a little more often.
