And goodbye to your trailer. Bassboat in Saltwater is a bad idea.

We fished a bass boat on West Bay in Galveston for many years. I would not argue with any of the warnings posted, but it can be done but requires some extra planning. Absolutely do not put your fresh water trolling motor in the salt, It won't last the day. There are some anodes you can put on the motor that cuts down on the corrosion, made of magnesium I think, ask your boat shop they can tell you. I mounted mine on the bottom of the skeg so they helped protect the skeg from shell reefs. If possible stop by a lake just to run the boat & trailer up and down the ramp a few times to rinse the salt water off and as was said flush the motor as soon as you can. If your trailer is not galvanized keep it well painted. It's no fun being in Texas City on the way back to Houston on Sunday evening with a broken axel . however after I replaced the axel with a good galvanized one it was never a problem again. One last thing, be extra careful most bass boats sit low in the water and waves will come over the sides and bow. Have a very good bilge pump maybe even two. I'm still using my '87 model boat just take care of it and be prepared.

I have done it many times over the years and it is very hard on your boat and trailer. The first thing to go will be the carpet..you can't get all the salt out no matter how well you rinse it and trailer WILL rust if it is not galvanized. That being said I have always had a blast doing it though and my boat was not a very nice one so not that big of deal to me. Another thing I noticed is the extra fuel I use pulling a boat to and from the coast I could just about hire a guide for the day.

Unless your trailer is aluminum or Galvanized, don't do it. You will be buying a new trailer in about 6 months.
