I am looking at a boat in North Carolina that is owned by the original owner. He has the boat title but not a title for the motor. Since he is the original owner is there a way to get the motor titled so I could register it here in Texas? I have heard the horror stories but unsure on this one.

Thanks

once you get it here to texas you have to get pictures of the serial # on the engine and fill out some paperwork. helps if he gives you a bill of sale thats lists the motors detalis. i just registered my boat from florida here in texas and down there(fl) we didnt have titles on motors either.

If boat and motor does`nt have a title before you buy it, North Texas you only changed you registration to Texas it gets into a lot of problems when changing ownership. I would highly advise you to go talk to TP&W first.

BOS with motor numbers on it, PWD 144, PWD 504 picture or pencil tracing of serial number, PWD 314 Affidavit of Fact stating previous state didn't title motors. Tha 314 can be done by you or tha previous owner. Tha 504 can be done by you. Then give 'em tha MONEY............

There is one exception to above. Some States have a "motor registration" that has to be signed over to tha buyer. Don't know if N.C. is that way or not......

+1 Call TPWD but it shouldn't be a big deal, I moved from MD and we didn't have outboard titles, took pics and a rubbing and submitted the paperwork no problem.

i've TITLED several boats and motors that didn't have a title.

like above.. BILL OF SALE from original owner. some states just have "registration" cards. those help too to prove previous ownership.

get pictures and pencil tracing on all serial #'s and HIN's.

getting some help from a local marine dealer will help alot.

it's not that big of a deal.

oh.. and a NOTORIZED bill of sale will really help too.

States that title the motor separately are stupid. Do they title your motor to your car separately? No. They need to title the boat and motor as a package.

Motors are sold without the boat all the time so it makes it easier knowing if a motor is hot or not. Not saying all non titled motors are stolen either i have bought some without titles too.

Yes you can do it. All the information to do so is on the web site. I recently did mine an the only hard part was writing the check.

Thanks,
