I'm not sure which shallow water anchor would work best for me. What do you guys think?

Where do you park your boat when not in use? If in a lower clearance garage or carport a PP is best because you can lower it.
Do you have someone fishing on the back deck often? If so, you can lower the PP to get it out of the way for their casting.
Do you like looks of gutters? That's what other products look like
Do you want to spend less money on a shallow water anchor? A Sportsman 2 is cheaper than other shallow water anchors. Both products are anodized alluminum.
If you want other products to fold out of the way you have to spend more $ for a tilt bracket & lower manually, a PP can be lowered mechanically

My concern is that most of the time I see talon and powerpoles on 20,21 ft boats. Trying to get info from ppl that have smaller vessel like mine but all info is good. Thanks

A PP will work on boats all the way from a 2 man bass buster - 22' boats.

Yeah, your TR-18 is identical to a TR-21 from the seats back, methinks. If anything, it should work better since it's dealing with less weight and a shorter distance to the pivot point. It's amazing these days how much money one can spend on a fish finder + an anchor. And, if you're one of those fine citizens that pays interest on non-essential purchases, then....wow. Makes me think of my grandfather and his milk jug full of cement, rope tied around the handle. That was the one thing that made him quit cursing the new plastic jugs, for he was a paper carton man to the end. Funny thing was that the concrete jug wasn't just his anchor; I think it was his fish finder, too

I think those are good points mentioned above, but also consider space. Smaller boats tend to have less space in the battery compartment, do you have room for a pump? I prefer power poles, but if you dont have the space a talon might be the best option.

Chevy versus Ford (listed alphabetically, not in order of preference!). Both will work well, it's a matter of personal preference. I think if you look around enough you can find similar prices for either unit.
I bought Talons for an 18' Nitro. I later moved them to a Z519 Ranger (19'6"). I added hinge brackets and can lay them flat on the rear deck if I need clearance for a garage door, etc. It takes a matter of seconds and no tools required.
The Talon's are easy to install and won't fill your rear compartment with pumps. I had a hydraulic steering line fail on my Nitro resulting in ruined carpet. I'm sworn against adding any more oil filled gadgets than necessary on my new boat.
Cody's right that Talon's look like rain gutters. I personally think Power Poles make your boat look like a big grass-hopper when extended. Neither unit will add to the beauty of your boat, both work well.
It might be a good idea to research reliability. I can tell you my Talons are three years old and have performed flawlessly.
I will tell you this...buy two units or none. I started with one unit and found myself spinning around in circles when the wind changed direction.
Good luck with your choice.

before spending 3k on pp you might be able to get a bigger boat and use that 3k that direction IMO. However if you fish alot alone i can understand why you wouldn't need a bigger boat (or if you dont fish when its rough). I have a buddie who prefers a 18' boat and i have a 21' and he has his points that make sense. I would assume (and could be wrong) by having a 18' boat you might only need one pp instead of 2?

Make sure you get two or else it's pointless two are better but one will work, you just have to learn how to position your boat, I had one for two years and was happy to have it, I have a pair now, really happy now.

Hey guys new to the forum, although not new to reading the forum, and just wanted to add my 2 cents. I've been researching this very topic for the last 2 weeks and totally agree it basically boils down to preference, but my 362V Ranger doesn't have the room for the pumps of the PP's so I'll have to go with the Talon's. And let me add that the Sportsman model PP's do not come with remote capability unless you add it ( if I've done my research properly) and all Talon's come with remote. If you figure that in with mounts and all it's almost apples to apples

All power poles come with a wireless dash switch which can also be used as a remote
