I am headed there next week for the first time and was curious if anyone had been out there lately and had any helpful advice. Also, is there any part of the lake you can run or do I need to just idle around? Thanks!

Have not fished houston county much but the lake is not a running lake... Very stumpy be safe and good luck... There are some good fish in that lake... When in doubt take it easy...

I think you can run in the middle in the area close to the dam, but that's about it. Anything right (east) of the marina is idle only if you don't know the lake well.

There is a roadbed that runs pretty much north-south just west of the marina. It's pretty shallow, but I assume the lake is high enough that you can get over it without problem.

I completely agree with Razorback. I've fished Houston many times. I know how to run on plane west of the marina to the dam. I have seen people running wide open on the east side but they obviously know (hopefully) what they are doing. I will never run that fast over there!

Yeah, be very careful running past the marina just like everybody else is saying. Docks always have some fish on them. Let us know how the grass is looking out there!

Thanks for all of the info. Looks like I will do a lot of idling, which is a good thing for my pocketbook.

Great! I haven't been up there in quite a while. Absolutely love that lake and grass made it 10x better to me. I could throw a swimbait all day up there when it had grass

Well......once again someone has ruined yet another one of my favs!!! Fished it yesterday with a buddy. We boated 14 fish with biggest little over 3 lbs. We would come up to a spot and I would say " last year we caught fish here, and his response was, yeah there was grass here" but NOT ANYMORE!!!" Over and over again, nothing but BARE BANKS with isolated stumps. A beautiful lake RUINED AGAIN!!! Off my list until grass comes back. Let's see that's, Houston County Lake, Jacksonville, Purtis Creek, Lake Tyler, just to name a few. I just don't UNDERSTAND the reasoning????

Fishing is not a matter of life or death,
it's much more important than that!

I went last weekend. Haven't been there since "the SPRAY". I kept looking for the lilly pads that I did so well around last time, nothing. Well I did find some. There is some grass growing. We did pretty good. We had a 5.10, 2 that were 4-10, a 4 and a high 3 as our best 5. We caught them shallow all day. Our best baits were a frog, senko, spinnerbait. One surprising thing is that we didn't catch one fish from a pier. and not from lack of effort either.

Hate to hear that about the lack of grass. I had heard it was a really good lake and finally am getting around to going Friday. Hopefully, I can catch a few. Thanks to all for your feedback.
