Hi guys. walked out of my garage this morning and saw my buddy bearing black rubber cap kind of "blown off" my buddy bearing with some grease spilled onto the bottom of my wheel. Blue inner ring in the buddy bearing looks "pushed out" a little. Got a pic of it, but am the anti-savant when it comes to computers, so don't know how to post. Is this thing blown out or just needs repacking?

Did you use the trailer? Did you pump.grease in it? The ring should push out when its pumped with grease. I think it should have a hole in the side that will let grease excape if too much is pumped in. The rubber dust cover doesn't do anything except keep it clean... If you want to post a pic of jt let me know and I can put it on for ya.

I have some new rubber caps left over from the good old days of running them. I will be over on Hebran Parkway next Wed. at 12;45. They are FREE.

Consider loosing the Bearing Buddys and just pack them well and cap it.

I don't think you have a problem. Your bearing buddy "bra" probably just sealed really well as you pushed it on and the trapped air pressure pushed it back off after a while. The air pressure inside could have been higher if you put the cap on when the temperature was cold and then the hub heated up.

I always try to push the center of the cap in a bit when I put them back on to cause some of the air to escape.

Advice: Don't overfill Bearing Buddy's with grease!

Thanks everyone. Phish, I filled it up a lot yesterday. What kind of problems will it cause!

It can bust the seal and you can burn-up your bearings/hub -- not good. I've seen it happen more than once (it ruined a trip for me once too).

Theoretically, Bearing Buddy's have a relief mechanism to leak out excess grease. Problem is if you fill it fast this mechanism can't relieve the grease fast enough and you can either push out the entire seal or blow out the rubber part of it. As others have stated, this will ruin your day!
