my son (13 yo) bought a bunch of lures and plastic jig bait for our freshwater spring break trip. we have a trip planned in June to east side of Galveston/Trinity bay and he was wondering if any of that stuff would work? when we were getting the jigs, they reminded me of TTF trout jigs. has anybody tried with success or failure?

Fish are fish; if it looks like chow to a freshwater fish a saltwater fish will eat it. Just remember that the freshwater baits were not assembled with the corrosive influences of salt water in mind.
Change out the hooks.....

we mainly have crappie jigs and bass lures. the crappie were not biting so we didn't use many of them. i guess the same would apply for saltwater as to use bright colors for clear and dark for not so clear. i thought about stringing some up in different colors like a double shad rig.

Just make sure you rinse the stuff off after or the salt will eat it up!
Happy fishing!

Yeah, you can use anything in your box from fresh water and catch fish in salt... but definitely rinse it and maybe shoot it with wd 40 or something similar. might be worth using it before the fishing..

Yep - going fresh 2 salt with your lures can be productive.

I've caught some nice reds on Kalin Lunker Grubs on jigheads. After one fish they almost always are useless, but they can absolutely catch some fish!

I've been suckered into buying Gulp and the like for the last time. My go-to lure for the big 3 is the good ol' Blakemore Road Runner, the 2.0 pro heads with the little diamond blade and bait collar. I always get heads and rig them with Zoom twin tail grubs, which slow the fall, add action, and plane out the bait to make it run true.
I have dang near a tackle store at my disposal, and I've hauled a big chunk of it all over the continent catching fish. Largemouth in Texas, reds/flatties/trout on the coast, smallmouth in Maine and Canada....the Road Runner keeps coming out on top. It's the one lure I ALWAYS have tied on one of my rods.
Otherwise, I fish a Super Fluke most of the time. It's funny to have all that gear but really could get by fine with a pocketful of stuff.
I wouldn't, myself, never join a religion that restricted my diet; see, I don't want to get into heaven that way. -William Fontaine de la Tour D'Haute Rive
