This might sounded like a dum question. What is the best line or what line works best with a Abu gracia sliver max 2. And yes, you guess it.... This is my first baitcaster !!! Thank for ur help

I like power pro 30 lb braid with a 4 to 5 foot 17lb mono leader. The braid is strong and casts better than mono, then the mono is less easy to see. My .02

Not a dumb question at all. I don't have any experience with that reel but here is my $.02. If I just wanted all around line I could use in any situation I would probably go with 15lbs fluorocarbon. It really depends though on the application. Based on your sig pic I would guess you are bass fishing. Braid is good but will be more visible to fish. It's advantage is its strength compared to its line diameter. Be careful when throwing lighter braids on a bait caster as it has a tendency to dig in to itself on the spool when you hook set. The best way to counter this is by properly setting your drag. Mono is good but I generally only use it on top water baits. It has more buoyancy than fluorocarbon. All three lines have different amounts of stretch which also plays in to different techniques. As I said, for all around use I use fluorocarbon but ill always have braid (at least 50lbs) tied on one rod for fishing heavy cover or in deep water ill use it with a leader. Fluorocarbon is more expensive but performs well IMO.

Old school here. Mono for me in most instances. Bass Pro 17 lb EXCEL and XPS. I think a little stretch is a good thing and I don't have problems with hook sets. My biggest complaints with braid are that its too limp to tie knots in strong wind, have to be very carefull handling the stuff when lure is stuck, and so much harder to fix a bad birdnest. If mono is good enough for KVD, its good enough for me. Never knew he used it until watching a video yesterday.

It all depends on what you are going to be using the reel for. I like to use big game mono, from 10 lbs up to 15lbs depending on the purpose of that rod, for most of my set ups. However I have one reel that is set up with a suffix braid, not so much for it's strength but for the sensitivity braid gives you. Carbon fiber rod, t-rigged tungston weight, along with that braid and I can feel every thing that my bait is coming in contact with. I use this rod mostly for pitching into structure.
If this is your only bait caster and you are just learning to use them I would spool it with 12lbs big game. Make sure to carry and use reel magic to deal with the memory. Big game is plenty strong and all the strech it has makes it very forgiving. Plus it is much easier to correct a bad backlash with mono than it is with braid.

30# braid (Suffix) with mono backing (so the braid doesn't slip on spool) and a 15# flouro leader for this guy. Like posted above, baitcasters do better with heavier braid to keep the digging to a minimal. Still haven't mastered casting the lighter lures though

12 lb Mono backing 40# Power Pro Braid (on sale at Cabelas right now) 15# P-Line Flouro leader (~6 Ft)
I've thought about putting a mono leader on another baitcaster for topwaters, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

If it's your first baitcaster I would go mono. But that's just me.

I actually don't use it any more but I think that PLine CXX in 12 lb moss green is a great all purpose string. It's tough, super strong, easy to find. You can crank with it and throw t rig/weightless stuff as well... It does have some memory so Reel Magic, KVD line conditioner or line butter are very helpful if applied the night before to the spool.
I'm a braid-to-fluoro leader guy for most stuff. On my shallow cranking rod I use 17 lb vicious fluoro and on my deep cranking rod I use 14 lb trilene XL mono.

for someone new to the reel, or new to baitcasters...mono all the way.
My preference is 15lb fluorocarbon.

Most of my reels are spooled with P-Line CX Premium, it's a copolymer line with characteristics that fall in between mono and fluorocarbon; been using it since 2005ish. I have 12lbs strung on my Abu Revo reels.

Tony, the one thing no one has said here yet is life of the line. If you fish every week, 6 months is about the life of mono on a reel. Fluorocarbon is about the same, maybe slightly longer. Braid can easily last 5 years on your real if you take a modicum of care to preserve it. I've had braid last close to 10 years for me. I've been using it since a month after it hit the market-about 24 years.
