Went out yesterday to a golf course that has a mini lake on it I always do good on bass and I know there is huge crappie. Fished all day my friend caught one huge crappie about 1.5 - 2 lbs. watched a lady with huge minnows tearing the crappie up. All crappie were 1 lb and up. I couldn't buy one if I had to, even when I fished next to her. My question is what depth i should be at this time of year. The lady must have been set almost at 7 ft under her bobber. I'm a little confused I thought I should be targeting shallow areas. Please any advise would be appreciated.

7' could be considered shallow compared to other times of the year when they are holding in 20+ feet of water.
During the spawn they are usually "up on the bank" early morning and late evening and during the day they move back into deeper water (5-10') close by. I say usually because there are always exceptions. That's the summary of my limited experience during this and last year's spawn.
Maybe one of the long time crappie fishermen will post something more definite. Good luck!

Use only female minnows, crappie chase them like crazy. Male minnows are slow and don't draw the attention well. Just ask the person you buy your minnows from for all females...

Here is some great advice. Do what she was doing! Were I in your unfortunate situation, I would become that woman's best friend... it is obvious she knew how to catch the fish from that hole...and if you were lucky, she would pass that information along to you.... I was told a long time ago, you can learn something from everyone you meet, but you have to be willing to listen and be friendly to learn what information they have to offer you. Hope this info helps..
