What is a good boat to buy new for myself and my 12 year old son fishing for Sandies, Hybrids, Striper, and Crappie? Any suggestion?
Under $12k

I just went throught almost the same thing after selling my bass boat. Look for a clean center console and find a good one, you will not be happier, I am 100% pleased with mine. Look: http://dallas.craigslist.org/ftw/boa/3700677457.html

WOW the answers for this question can run wide.
Bass boats, pontoons, and center consoles. There are some great boats available at great prices if you look hard enough.
Key things that effect price are year, brand, length, and the motor on the back.
Personally I am not a fan of boats less than 18-19' so you can fish even if the water is a little rough. I like a Yamaha 4-stroke over most others, I prefer a Center console to a bass boat so I can stand and drive. No carpet means I can powerwash the [censored] out of it and not separate the carpet from the deck...
Boattrader.com doesn't have a lot of center cons for sale in your price range. In bass boats, there are a lot of boats in your price range.

Nice little boat but odds are you will want a bigger boat after the first six month.

I am not a fan of skiffs, they don't turn, they slide... I'd look for something that has a modified or Deep V hull.

I bought a bass boat at first and immediately regretted because I like to striper fish. If you await to be able to fish most of the time even if it is a little windy a nice used center console on Craigslist is perfect. I bought an 18 Kenner win a 90 4 stroke and I love it. I would go bigger if I would have known but in Texas a center console is great.

I suggest you look at the Lund. Are they under 12k, I don't know? But a very universal boat in my opinion.

I am happy with my Kenner Vision 2102 with a 150 Mercury. It came in in that budget range. I was a bass boat guy (Skeeter) for years, now I would never go back. Center console is the best for my applications.

Ranger Boats...preferred boat of divorce lawyers. Nothing like an $80,000 boat payment to mess up family finances.
