Howdy,

I have family arriving Friday to do some fishing over the weekend. Thought I'd pre-chum the area to get things jump-started.

We'll be fishing my boat slip on Ray Roberts. I've had pretty good success catching commons there over the last few years. I use range-cubes for chum and make my own dough-bait (bread, wheaties, eggs, salt, garlic powder).

Here's my problem - After I chum with the cubes, it seems to take about 4 to 6 hours for the carp to start biting. I'd like to avoid that waiting period and hit the ground running when my relatives are here.

So, should I throw out some cubes every day, a few days before they arrive? Should I throw it at the same time we plan on fishing each day (mornings). What about over-baiting? Is that a concern? Is it possible they'll get "full" on the cubes and just move on?

Any help will be appreciated. Thanks!

I don't think that you can over bait this time of the year. I may be wrong on that. The fish are probably coming off of the spawn an will likely be hungry. Plus buffalo are eating machines. I would start baiting in advance and maybe bait heavily the evening before you go out the next morning. Scatter the bait some so that they have to look around for it and put some into your preferred fishing spot. Good luck.

Put out half to a full bag of cubes 2 days before, then put another half to full bag in the afternoon the day before . You can also use alfalfa pellets. Then just fish it the next day.
