My motor will bog down while trying to take off. It doesn't do it every time though. It acts like its flooding out or some thing. I can put it back in neutral and I can rev it up all the way with no prob except for a lil back fire sound when I let off. Has anyone else had this problem seems to be running through oil pretty quick also. Any help would be great, thanks in advance.

It could be alot of things. First have you changed out your fuel lines with the new ethanol resistant lines? Fuel pump diaphram kit, water seperator filter, cleaned out the vst, high pressure regulator screen. Had injectors serviced (could have an injector flooding), changed plugs. There are alot of things that could cause this.......

My dad has a '99 225EFI. His boat would do this same thing every now and then but wouldn't do the backfire thing. It did for about a year or so. The ECM (Electronic Control Module) went out and we replaced it. It hasn't done it since then.

It makes no sense to me how something electronic could cause that and especially only cause it periodically, but it seemed to be the problem. The cost to replace the ECM was around $950.

I have the exact motor. It had been sitting for a long time when I bought it and did the same thing. Change the water pump and run a lot of Seafoam through the gas and even the oil. It runs great now with no problem at all. Good luck.

How long has it been sitting or did it just start doing this? How much gas was in the tank when you stored it?

I use the boat year round. Already replaced fuel water seperator and ran sea foam through it.

Sounds stupid but while idling around keep it trimmed up enough to keep the exhaust ports out of the water, mine did the same until I was told t do this! It worked! Trim it down right before coming out of the hole!

Going through a lot of 2 cycle oil I always suspect the motor mounted oil tank cap. The booging can be from fuel line degradation, fuel filter, motor running too cool, TPS malfunction, or sparkplugs.
