I was at PC today (the guy in the red kayak fly fishin). For me, the morning started slow, I caught one in the second bay on the south side, about 14" on a dahlberg diver, gold colored. A dink. By about 11 i was back by the creek and had changed to a Zedd original pheasant tale crawdad, and caught a 5 lb then a couple more dinks, moved to the island area and caught another 5 lb, and 3 more 15 inchers (plus a smallish gar). CRAZY windy. chop was about 18 inches, which normally wouldn't be bad, but hitting a submerged stump on the crest and then the subsequent trough can be a little eye opening. A couple of the guys in boats with sonar said the temperature was 58-59. The guy I was fishing with hooked a bass in the 7+ range close to shore, but was the biggin threw the hook. (He thought he had a stump). Generally, any opinions on what the unusual fluctuations in temperature will have on the upcoming generation of bass?

Thanks for the news article, I did not know they used gill nets in surveys. But I guess without shallow cover electro-surveys at Purtis Creek would not stun many fish. It's DD22 time in the main creek channel. Thanks for sharing that! I haven't lost faith yet, but I will sure be happy to see the grass make a comeback. I hope they never "experiment" on a lake like this again with grass carp! Whoever in TPW that made that decision did a great injustice to what used to be a jewell of a lake!

If the grass makes a comeback I'm sure it will get sprayed or fed to the grass carp. Many sides and issues when the topic of killing hydrilla is addressed. Those issues involve land owners w/docks, pleasure boaters, skiers, water commissions... What I have such trouble understanding is with a lake that was built as a state park specifically for fishing with an emphisis on Black Bass, why is the grass not "managed" with the fishing in mind? I think past practices throughout the state have shown what NOT to do in regards to fishing management.

With several hundred grass carp in the lake, how in the world did you come up with your " but I will sure happy to see the grass make a comeback" line????? You privy to some top secret info??????

The carp are sterile. They will eventually die.
...but it's going to be a while. You know, they had a carp tournament out there last year.
Seriously.

.... You know, they had a carp tournement out there last year.... yeah, they caught a handful of the grass carp so it had virtually no effect.

There are several areas where they are attempting to replant grass and slow rolling a spinnerbait on bottom in other areas of the lake, i did have to clear some coon tail off hook and blades. I am just saying I am not jumping on the band wagon to say Purtis Creek is dead, like other comments i have read. My biggest gripe is that TPW made a huge mistake stocking the grass carp in there to begin with and I am hoping the grass makes a comeback. The fish are still there, you just have to fish them different than in the years past. We lost a predictable pattern to find them but i am just sorry the fish lost their valuable habitat.

yeah only 2 were caught, they will die off within two years because they are all breaking their backs during the spawn so now they really wont be there much longer.
Estimatated 200 left, all 20+lbs so if you wanna catch some carp, have some fun!
You stay home and enjoy the pictures, I'll be catching fish
You don't always need a boat.. But gosh darn it, sure helps!
