Just bought a new boat and it has a 958 up front and a 958C at the console. Prior rig had Lowrance units so I am going thru my learning curve and struggling with the console unit. I can not get the sonar to come up. The manual says the unit automatically defaults to sonar on start up, but this one does not. What am I missing?

Both are 958c, are there any other letters in the model names?
The "c" means it has a color display.
The sonar views won't display unless there is a transducer connected.

I have a 788CI HD DI COMBO with a lake master chip. I am having trouble with the maps loading, and the sonar display is showing in large pixels.
Map - At certain levels the maps load fine, but at others all I get is a blank white screen. Also I have my brush piles marked with a yellow exclamation point symbol, and they only show up as such about half the time.
Sonar - The sonar is showing up in larger pixels than I think it should. to pixelated for an HD unit. and worse than the 778C HD I have mounted right beside it.
I should say I sent the unit and card to Humminbird and all they did was a soft reset. stating they could not find anything wrong.
I have always heard ppl say how great customer service for the humminbird product line is, but at this time I'm not feeling it.
Has anybody else had any similar problems?
Doug do you have any suggestions for me. Really need some help with this.

no I have not, I will check that. Thank you Wayne
I am asuming that the proper voltage would be 12, is this correct?

Checking back in on the noise issue with my 597ci HD DI. Increasing the noise filter mostly helps, but I still get some lines when a boat is nearby even with the noise filter cranked way up.
The problem is worse with the 200kHz sonar than the 455kHz sonar and does not appear on the DI.
I checked the voltage and I start the day at 12.3V and end it at about 11.9V.
This is in a kayak and the sonar is the only electrical item I have.

I have a 1198 and 998 that I would like to interlink. Besides the interlink itself, what do I need to order? Would like to be able to read depth at speed and was told there is a "Y" cable that needs to be purchased with a thru the hull puck. Any info?

You would want to use Ethernet instead of INTERLINK. It is more trouble free, faster, allows for sharing accessories, and it takes a single cable of suitable length (no hardware box and dual cables).
There is the AS SIDB Y cable to split off the 83/200 kHz from the Side Imaging transducer and connect a Dual Beam transducer in its place. Most use the XP 9 20 for shoot-thru in a suitable hull. With pre-testing and a proper installation it will perform at high speed.

On the 998 SI, how can I move the readouts to the bottom instead of them being on the left side???

You cannot move the readouts. You can turn off the left side readouts in the SI view only if you have software later than about June 2012. That setting is in the Sonar menu. You cannot change the Temp or Depth numbers with that setting.

Any info? if your set up follows suit, your 2 d images will suffer greatly, everyone I have seen with that set up has poor 2 d returns. the fish ID symbol function doesnt work correctly either. I can understand the reason for wanting to know the depth you are running in, but cant you just look at your map card and see the depth? If your unsure of how deep it is.. do u really want to be running thru it in the first place? not trying to be critical here. just trying to understand . why do you need to hammer down, and run around the lake seeing how deep it is. ?

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

DO NOT use the US2 for a 587ci HD DI. You can damage the unit since the transmitter for DI will not have a crystal attached that it can work with and can burn out the transmitter. You need to install a DI transducer to the trolling motor or select a non-di unit to use with the US2 transducer since it is only capable of providing 2D Sonar Data.
