Have a 2004 17' Stratos with FACTORY Stratos trailer and 90HP Johnson motor. Perplexing problem is the darn tongue weight seems to be between 300 and 350 lbs !!! That is too much, isn't it? I thought was just me (being now older), so ask wife to help lift with me. Both of us couldn't lift the dang thing. My marine mechanic said, yes the tongue weight was really heavy. So ?? Do ya'll know of ANYTHING I could do or try? Add weight to the rear of the trailer? Have welder 'relocate' axle farther front? (Boy I don't like that idea - but if only solution left other than buying another trailer..) I know there is a lot of experience out here...and this old guy needs some advice.. thanks, Fred

Where does the transom come to on the back of your trailer? How much of the boards are sticking out past the transom? I'm wondering if your boat is loading too far forward on the trailer.

I'm not sure. The whole thing is welded by the trailer mfg'r. The transom does not come up over the boards. Hope I said that right. No boards are 'sticking out'. The factory 'tie downs' are even with the transom so, no bend or stretching of the tie downs. Lord, did I answer your attempt to help me? r/ Fred

The loading looks fine. Moving the spare will help some that is way heavy for tongue weight.

Maybe I'm just stupid but what's the problem with the tongue weight? Does the jack not work? Hitch too low? Help me out here. Ok I looked a little closer and see your running out of jack. Simple problem to fix and will only cost you about $20 bucks. Buy a receiver with more height or if your current receiver is a drop hitch simply take the ball off and turn the receiver over so it's now higher and not dropped.

No, jack works. I was going to use a garden tractor (less the cutting deck), to guide and back the trailer into a carport that will be built. But, I can't lift it (the tongue) and the garden tractor can't move it either....wheels just spin on road base. Crushed discs in lower back keep me from turning around in my truck to back it in. Thus the garden tractor and thus the problem....

It does not raise itself (retract) high enough.. explain: I have had road base pad put in, with weight of tongue, wheel just digs in. I put 2x12 pieces under the wheel to twist the front of the trailer and guide it onto the receiver. Hopes for the garden tractor (with ball welded on to the front) to 'drive' it in...just won't work..... Anyhow....if I could get the tongue weight lighter..it might work to move it and back it in... thanks for the reply.. r/ Fred

all you have to do is have the bunk boards replaced so they are longer out the back end, then move your winch tower further back. sometimes a little like 6 inches, can make a big difference. someone may have replaced the boards before and cut them too short, then moved the winch tower forward. if u get it right, you can lift it with little effort. the winch tower is likely not welded, just bolted, so you can just loosen the u clamps, and slide it back.

COMING SOON! .. THE STICKLE HOOK " the stay level sickle hook". sits level in the water with all knots.! Provides better hook sets and more natural jigging motion. No more adjusting the knot, gluing , or tying loop knots that cause the hook point to tangle in the loop, or worse knick the line.. The jighook that will make all others obsolete !

something also possible id if that boat had a 150 on it it would have more weight on the back, and being it has just a 90, its heavy up front., what is max hp for your rig?

Might try filling your back live well. Maybe also getting a jack with a three inch wide wheel

I think 90 and 115 are around the same weight, but 150 would be heavier.

Call McLain trailers and check. I think they could build you a trailer better suited to your needs. Would be cheaper than moving axles. That set up looks way too far back. Almost like a cc trailer.
