I could be wrong, but I think that is the old tarpon, and its a good kayak, I know I've seen some good reviews on it

Excellent yak. yep old tarpon design is correct. Only consistent complaint is the seat not so good for long hours.

One of the best buys out there. It's a well-made boat that will outlast most of the kayaks in that price range.

Yes, it is the previous WS Tarpon 12 design (2008 and prior). Had one for the wife, sold it only because I want something with a hi/lo seat to make entry/exit a bit easier for her - ok, I need the same thing also. Fairly fast boat, tracks well, good storage, the seat needs work - we ended up stuffing a layer of 1/4" high density foam pad under the seat. Overall, an inexpensive way to get you on the water and fishing. Note - that boat when marketed under the WS brand was selling for 700-800. I expect the boat is still mf'd in the same facility with the same basic specs as when WS had it as the Tarpon. There are a few minute differences such as the Tarp had 2 rear rod holders and the Academy Pesc has only 1. Another option is to look for used kayaks - if you look hard enough and your timing is right, you can pick up a "name brand" yak for about the same price. Also consider the dealers such as Mariner Sails who often list "clearance" or used boats. There is often value to buying from those who are able to provide sales support and service to your purchase.

Great value at that price.
Then if you want to upgrade eventually, they make great buddy kayaks.
