I may be wrong but I've heard it's because the coloring works well in both low light conditions and bright. When it's dark out it profiles more than say a watermelon green, and when it's bright out it appears to be just a little darker than say the wm green. It's one of the most versatile colors, not sure if that's scientifically accurate though.

Try taking something junebug and dip the tail of it or tails, in watermelon spike it dye. Amazing results
I can backlash toilet paper.

Junebug works well in stained water (darker contrast than green pumpkin or watermelon), and stained describes a lot of Texas lakes! Pretty much what TopGunPilot just said.
