What do you all use to store your materials for transport or travel? I have seen the fishpond travel tying bags and wow they are nice, but a bit too spendy for me. I was thinking of some type of binder so I can flip through the feathers.
So what do you all use?

I've had a couple of those tying materials bags but found them very time consuming to pack and not worth the $$$. These days, I use big waterproof sterlite containers from The Container Store and they work quite well.

Simple does seem to work best and the sterlite style containers are popular. If you want something fancier, there are a variety of plastic tool boxes with trays and compartments built in that can make nice travel cases. HD and Lowes usually have a surprisingly large selection. And of course zip-lock bags are your friend.

I saw some guys at fly fish texas using the rollable tool boxes(plastic) for toting their fly tyin stuff. I have all my portably fly tying stuff in a bass pro finesse binder but i dont carry a lot of stuff; just some essentials to tie basic flies on the road-p-

I combined the sterilite and the zippie bags. The bags will stand on end in the box.

+1 on the Fishpond, great system, although a little pricy.

I go for the low-tech, low-cost approach. I "appropriated" a tacklebox type plastic dealio from my wife's supplies and took out the inner guts of it. Gallon and quart freezer ziplocks can then be squished haphazardly inside. Works for me.

+1 on Sterlite plus Ziplocs. These have the additional advantage of protecting furs and feathers from marauding moths and critters.
Hooks either get bagged in their original packets or placed in an Umpqua Oregon-izer Hook Box (for larger hooks) or TMC Hook File (for smaller ones).

I just throw the hooks in in their original packages. That way I have to take everything out of the box to find the hooks I want. It also means I see that material that's "ohhh, I want to use THAT!", even tho it has no place on the flies I was going to tie.
