Went to purtis today, caught 7 fish between 2 and 4 pounds one pushing 5. I talked to a park ranger when I was loading up my kayak, he says the bass there have not been on beds. The water in the back of creeks was in the 70s. Is it even possible the spawn has not happened there yet? I didn't want to tell him it probably has happened for some fish, but not all. What do ya'll think? I did not see any on beds.

I went about a month ago and saw no signs of a spawn. The fish were few and far between. I've been fishing the lake for many years and have decided not to go back any time soon. My opinion is that the bass population is almost gone from the lake.

Is it still catch and release only? Maybe the bass are like fork and have a Basscherlor's Degree from A&M blush which means they are smart and spawn deep on the stump limbs. I saw a mass of eggs today laying in a bush...

We were there today and just caught 4 bass all under 3 lbs. Did't see any on beds or any small fry swimming around. I'm still hoping it is a good bass lake. It would be interesting to know what a fish survey would show. This is the first spring We have fished the spawn in several years there, i sure miss the grass that they fed to the grass carp. I'll try again with the next full moon, hoping to catch that wave. We fished for crappie there last summer and was realy looking forward to the bass spawn this year.

There's no way possible they haven't spawned yet. With all the carp commotion up shallow ,they just spawned deeper.

Yea, I saw a ton of carp, and it was well into the 65-70 all over the lake. Had to have spawned right? About the survey, they did one this year so said the park ranger. He said there were a hand full of share lunks and many 10 pounders. Lots of 3- 5 pounders. I don't think the bass are gone, I caught em today. It is still catch and release. Today was my first time there, looks amazing. I can not imagine that place with hydrilla. That would be amazing. Why the hell did they fill it with nasy grass carp. I'm guessing they treated it too? That's a shame. I'm defiantly going back, the big bass are still there, gotta be

share a lunkers and ten pounders reported from a survey. the ranger needs new glasses if he was present. electroshocking surveys will not bring up big fish, usually around 6 to 7 pounds is the limit.

All lakes age and change, but it's a shame what TP&WD did to that little shining star.

I have a newspaper article from Tyler that shows a BIG one that was gill netted. They said on hand help scales it went 18 lbs

Thanks for the news article, I did not know they used gill nets in surveys. But I guess without shallow cover electro-surveys at Purtis Creek would not stun many fish.

It's DD22 time in the main creek channel.

That's what the ranger said. I don't know.
