Fishing the Big Bass Splash for the first time. I Usually fish to catch fish or a good limit. I'm assuming the mind set is different, but the bigger question is, how do you fish for Big Bass (even though that's alwasy the intent)?
Thanks

SSSSLLLLOOOOWWWW DOWN! And fish a little deeper. Its amazing how many people troll over big fish to catch small ones on the bank.

Big fish can be anywhere but generally you'll be better off finding offshore structure. Fish deeper structure slowly with bigger baits (jigs, plastics, crank baits, etc.). And don't be in a hurry. You typically won't get a lot of bites, but hopefully the bites you do get will be bigger fish.

I usually use a crappie minnow but Bob might have a problem with that. September is usually the time of year when you can catch 50 with none over a pound and a half. Unfortunately, that's when they have the "Big Bass Splash". If you get on some undersized fish and have the discipline to it, fish through them with a bigger bait and slow down.

My buddy is a shallow water bank beater. He always catches more fish than me but mine are always bigger. I think the reason mine are bigger is b/c I fish deeper. I've tried to get him to see the light but you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink.

Put 2 rods in your boat , 1 with a football jig and the other with a football jig . Drag it slow on offshore structure/cover . It will happen I promise

I can only add this. Fish parallel with the contour lines, start shallow now and back down the lines as the day goes on, if there is a small ledge or something different along the contour line, I have seen many of fish travel up and down the highways.
I am blessed to have a opportunity to live a childhood dream as a professional wrestler

Workfishngolf...that sounds exactly how I would describe my partner and it wears me out. I love fishing structure other than visible stuff on the bank but he will rarely even give it a try.

Big baits are an excellent set of tools to catch big fish- when they are active. If you have a time constraint- sounds like you're talking about a tourney- I'd fish a jig. Location trumps everything else of course.
Take my advice with a grain of salt though. My experience is limited to small deep rocky structured highland reservoirs with little cover, which I understand is quite different from southern lakes.
Good luck.

Doodle Sock stumps/tress right on the vertical break of a creek, at the mouth of a cove or where the creek stops leading to the spawning flats... with a Black Triple Rattleback jig with a blue, red or chartreuse craw. 7" Heavy rod and a wrist braces on so you won't get your wrists broken! Yeah, the terminology may be ancient but I worked a fence line of 4x4 posts in a private lake in Kaufman using my Texas rig 30 years ago with no bites. My partner came through in his Kayak a few minutes behind me and pulled a darn bass of of every stinking post. He was one of those Gents that had every issue of BassMaster magazine in his trophy room... It's old but worth a look: http://texasfishingforum.com/forums/ubbthreads.php/topics/114306/Doodle_Socking
