Has anyone had any success on top water out at Ray Roberts? Fishing out there this weekend and hoping the top water bite is starting to get good. Nothing better than a toad on top water!!!

Last year I'd get a few good hits on poppers at daybreak after the spawn and throughout the Summer. Nothing yet so far this year.

Lake is still cold. I tell everyone it's the last lake of the year to turn on. The lake is so deep and so hard to warm up. We have had so many cold nights lately this past month, the cold nights are canceling out the warmth of the day, I don't think they are ready till for top water till the shad have their first spawn and that normally doesn't happen till well into May. Use to take the wife and kids every memorial day weekend and we use to tear them up on buzz baits. I have had some success in Isle Dubouis and some in Sand Branch on Buzz Baits in April, but it would be one of those years we had a warm winter. Puxatoney Phil needs to be fired after his prognostication this year!

I have fished with Dannie G in early March on Ray Bob and we caught them on White Horny Toads in 56-59 degree water in the afternoon. I lost one of the biggest fish I have ever hooked on a Deps frog the same day. Mr. Golden taugh me a lot in that trip and I still use some of his tips up here on Okie Lakes. Thanks Dannie!

I depends on which areas you are fishing. I didn't have any luck this past weekend. However, someone I talked to after said they caught all their fish on topwater, all day.

I usually have pretty good luck on buzzbait out there this time of the year. A lot of times it's just a reaction bite from one near a bed.

Pop R's worked for me last year when it got a little warmer. I had one big blow-up on a Yellow Magic a few weeks ago but nothing else. I haven't gotten any hits on Sammy's and Spooks this year yet. I don't have much confidence that these baits will work yet so I haven't spent much time with them so it's a Catch-22.

Ironically, the biggest bass I've ever caught there was on a Yellow Magic in Decmeber.

I fished from 12-4pm today and fishing was slow. I caught one bass that weighed 2.7lbs in shallow water. Water is cold.
