I've really been paying attention to details this year during the spawn, trying to get better at catching these bed fish. One consistent thing I have noticed - When bed fishing, I get noticeably more bites when my plastic has chartreuse on it. But why?

Is it the contrast in color that the bass don't like? Does it give them a target? Does it mimic some type of natural forage? Why does Chartreuse makes so much of a difference?

Visibility is a big reason. Chartreuse shows up in dingy water better than anything.

A lot of creatures in the water have chartruese or lighter color hues in their tails and fins if you look at them. Bluegill, lizards, threadfin shad, etc.

Look at this picture of a threadfin shad:

There's quite a few amount of aquatic species that have chartreuse somewhere on their bodies. Bluegills, Perch, Shad, baitfish, etc.. Believe it or not, I've even caught bass that had some chartreuse somewhere on their bodies.
