Where can you go to buy a type 600 freshwater guides license? And what is involved in getting one?

Pay your $$ and get one.

There may be more involved than simply purchasing a guides liscense.

Go to somewhere that sells fishing liscenses pay $132.00 and get a guides liscence. http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/faq/fishboat/fish/ that website and the book you're given every year that most people throw in the glove box and never look at are full of useful information.

I don't know about Texas but in some places a guides liscense isn't gonna feed you if you don't also have a captain's liscense.

If you are staying in fresh water then the guide's license is the only requirement.

What are the requirements for a saltwater fishing guide? Freshwater?

A fishing guide license is required for any person who receives money or other compensation for accompanying, assisting, or transporting any person engaged in fishing in the waters of the state.

Guides who operate only in fresh water can purchase a Fresh Water Guide license (type 600) for $132. Other than the license, there are no special requirements for freshwater fishing guides.
Guides who take passengers out in salt water (waters designated as navigable by the US Coast Guard) will need an All-Water Fishing Guide License or an All-Water Paddlecraft Guide License. The annual fee for these licenses is $210 for Texas residents; $1,050 for non-residents. In order to purchase an All-Water Guide License, an applicant must have the following additional training:

�All-Water (types 610 and 710) � Guides using motorized vessels must present original documentation at time of purchase that the applicant possesses a valid and appropriate U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Operator�s License. It is the operator�s responsibility to assure compliance with USCG regulations. For additional information, contact the USCG Regional Examination Center in Houston, Texas at (713) 948-3350.�All-Water Paddle Craft (types 650 and 750) - Guides utilizing paddle craft (canoes, kayaks, etc.) must present certification or proof of completion of a TPWD boater safety course, CPR/First Aid training, and completion of the American Canoe Association �Level II Essentials of Kayak Touring� and �Coastal Kayak Trip Leading� courses or the British Canoe Union �Three Star Sea Kayak� and �Four Star Leader Sea Kayak� courses. This license is applicable only to paddle craft and cannot be used when a person is operating a motorized vessel. However, any person who possesses a All-Water fishing guide license and a valid USCG vessel operator�s license is qualified as an All-Water paddle craft fishing guide.
All-Water and All-Water Paddle Craft fishing guide licenses are available only at TPWD Law Enforcement offices. Freshwater fishing guide licenses are available at any location where licenses are sold.

Amistad you have to have USCG Boat Captain License.

They were trying to do that on Texoma some time ago not sure if they got it done.

I was told a couple of years ago that even at Amistad, you just need a 132 license now.

What about Falcon,,, I was stoped by the USCG when i was there about three years ago. Right after all the hooRaw on the lake...Thanks for a reply...

First Happy Birthday. Hope you got to spend it on the water.
Having just renewed, my commercial use authorization with the park service on Amistad. I can assure you, Guides are still required to hold a valid USCG Capt. License along with 300,000.00 in general liability insurance, and a Valid TWIC card.

Now these requirement are because it is a National Recreation Area and operated by the government.

On Most state park lakes, you just need the state guide license. but I would highly recommend getting a general Liability Policy at the very least. Good Luck in your Guiding endeavors and if you ever have any questions about guiding in General I would be more than happy to try and help.
