The kiddo's will be in college in just a few years and we are looking at moving to North Texas. We currently deer hunt near Abilene and waterfowl hunt around Paris Texas. So the question is what lake would you move to in the North Texas area to live on? It would be nice to have waterfront property but I know a lot of lakes up that way don't allow it. Or do you centrally locate yourself to fish a lot of different one's? 90% bass fisherman and 10% crappie. Thanks for the input.

Do you need to be close to a big city, or would you prefer to be in a more rural area?

Bonham is a great little lake with waterfront property. And there are lots of good lakes close to it as well.

Maybe settling around Lake Fork would be a good option for you guys... If you would be fine an hour outside of Dallas. It's one of the more affordable lakes to live on in Northeast Texas. You can live, fish and duck hunt on the water. Plus, there is some great deer hunting to be had around the area if you do some looking.. LOTS of other great lakes close by as well... Just a thought. cheers

Cypress Springs would be my pick but I have a place out there so I am biased. It's 1 hour from Paris, 45 minutes from Fork, 10 minutes from Monticello and our fishing ain't too bad either for both bass and crappie.

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for, but if you want a private lake, you might consider ours in NE Texas (Lake Cherokee). It's about 4000 acres and fishing is pretty decent. Here's the website:

http://www.cherokeewatercompany.com/

All lots are waterfront. Lake patrol, but they aren't bothersome. 92 miles to Paris (I hunt up there some, too). About 5 hours to Abilene (had a lease in Brownwood). All types of houses on the lake and usually a good number for sale. 10 miles south of Longview. PM if you want more info. Very relaxed place and little fishing pressure.

About 45-60 minutes south of downtown in Corsicana/Kerens is Richland Chambers. There are a ton of lakefront lots for sale at a great price. The bass and crappie fishing is decen and making a comeback.

Fork is a given and not too over priced. That would also put you in very easy distance to some of the other gems of NETX like TWOK, Sulpher Springs, Gilmer, LOP, Hollmbrook, Sandlin, etc.

Eagle Mountain 12 miles NW of Ft. Worth pretty much puts you in the middle for Abilene and Paris. Not a great lake but certainly one seems to be putting out more quality big fish than in the past. I speak having lived on it and fished it hard since 1978. Also some waterfront properties available on a regular basis.

Lake Cherokee looks to be a very nice area. We drove by it the other day.

Texoma, close to Ray Roberts, Bohnam, Murray and others, plus good hunting all around it.
