My 7 yr old little fishing buddy set a goal to catch the junior lake record largemouth and smallmouth on Grapevine this year. Current largemouth junior record was only 1.2 lbs and he had caught several fish bigger than that on his own, but I wasn't going to let him certify a fish until he caught a personal best Over completely by himself. He was rewarded for suiting up in the cold and the rain middle of last week. Caught a slot right off the bat and then he landed a nice 5.62 lb bass off a spinnerbait. http://youtu.be/1YW2l18UlQkI'm sure it won't hold up long since Grapevine is fishing so well these days (and this post will trigger some folks to certify the next 7 lber their son catches), but he is very proud to hold the record for the moment. Neat part is that his favorite pro, Tom Redington, had Roland Martin send Dasan a congratulatory video from the FLW tournament trail today. {HUGE thanks, Tom!!} We certified the fish at Bass Pro and then released it. Paperwork is down in Austin at TPWD... Now to the dam for his smallmouth record (nothing on record with TPWD yet, but I'm gonna make him catch something over 18 inches before we certify it)...

Congratulations to your son and his record fish!  More important a Memory was made for a lifetime.

I think my son was more excited about the note he got from Tom than the video from Roland. He's a big Big Bass Battle fan, and is a little young for the awesomeness of Roland. But he's learning...

Congratulation to you both. As the dad of the former Jr. angler record holder for Grapevine, I know this will be a cherished title for your son. My daughter Morgan thoroughly enjoyed her reign as the record holder, but clearly yields that title over to a fine young man. That was a very impressive fish, and you have set a very high bar to beat. I hope he gets many years to enjoy being on top.
