I have been all over this lake in the last three weeks looking for crappie and have yet to find any spawning. The people I have checked and spoken to on the lake tell me the same thing. Is anyone having success this Spring for crappie on this lake?

Ive only found a few crappie shallow spawning about a month ago. Nothing since then. Ive been told that they have not even started to spawn yet.

I fished yesterday and caught 6 fish chasing crappie. All the fish caught were small male bass. The water temp was between 64 and 66. If the lake was full I could catch fish but even the marinas are not catching fish like they have in the past. Don't know what's up!

I have been fishing the stalls at April Plaza and the fish are just not in there right now. You catch a few here and there but it is way off from the norm. Another front will come in wednesday and mess ut up again.

Conroe used to be a really good crappie lake for me, but 2011 was the last of the decent catching Ive done there. Im convinced the crappie fishery there is at an all-time low, and honestly dont think theres been a productive spawn since 2009. My thoughts are that with the lack of vegetation, the crappie fry have no place to hide and the majority of the new hatch is eaten before they have a chance to get past the fingerling stage. The low water levels for the past 2-3 years havent helped either, but no vegetation is the bigger culprit in my opinion.
The last short fish Ive caught there was in January of 2011, and that fish measured 9 . I had a long discussion with a long time Conroe guide at a ramp one day this past December, he was saying the same things Id been thinking so I knew it wasnt just me having problems.
I hope it comes back one of these years, but until some vegetation established again Im not holding my breath waiting on it.

Thanks for the responses.

I have been clueless on the crappie for a couple of years. We used to hit them without any real effort, but since they sprayed the vegetation a few years back, it is not like it once was.

You are correct sir. The homeowners, as you refer to them, seem to have that much clout.

Last weekend when I went up I launched at Lakeview. I was blown away by the ramp fee. $15 to launch. I really have been losing all kinds of interest in fishing this mud hole. I can be on Livingston in just about 30 more minutes and believe me the fishing on Livingston is much better!!!!!!

In the immortal words of one of our most beloved, forthright and intelligent leaders in recent history (using irony here) "I feel your pain!"

Good thing my love for my country and my love of fishing outweigh my disdain for public spending gone wild.

The cost of the south end ramps is ridiculous. I've always bought the yearly day pass and launch at Cagle, probably bought my last one this year though. From where I'm located in east Montgomery Co it's about 50 minutes to launch at Conroe, depending on traffic and road work. Add another hour to that and I'm in the water on Rayburn or really close to a boat ramp on TBend. Would rather crappie fish either of those lakes than anything down here. I can actually launch on Livingston in less time than it takes to go to Conroe, and I do crappie fish some on Livingston, but it's not very high on my preferred list.

I fish Livingston more these days cause I am putting a camp up there soon. I already have one on Fork.
Living in the Houston area I wanted something close enough that I could be at within an hour or so.

I am 1 hr 50 min to my camp on Rayburn. Boat launch there is $30 or so for a yearly pass.
Livingston is still my favorite place to go catch white bass on jigging spoons, but that addiction is normally satisfied in 4-5 trips a year though.

I feel yalls pain on the conroe crappie, the fall/winter of 2010 i fished the 1375 bridge and would just tear them up then the drought hit for the fall/winter of 2011 and it hurt the crappie at the 1375 so i fished the 1097 bridge and tore em up there but this past fall/winter i dont know what happened to the crappie??? im fixing to go back and hit a couple brush piles that they get on after the spawn but im starting to think the crappie are fished out because of no survival of the fry...
