I came into the house this morning about 10:00 after finishing mowing my grandparent's and 2 elderly neighbor's lawns. I was going to drink a glass of lemonade, take a shower and just be lazy. I had the day off from work.
My Gramdma walked in and I got the surprise of my life. She asked me if I would take her fishing and that she would pay for everything. My Grandma is 60 years old and has never been fishing. I asked her where she wanted to go and she told me that a friend of hers had told her that she and her husband had been catching flounder at Anahuac Park.
An hour and 20 minutes later we had been to Academy for a license for her, had stopped for fresh shrimp, and were at the park. I rigged a rod and reel for her and cast it out and handed it to her and told her to keep the tip of the rod up and the line tight. In less that 20 seconds as I was telling her this I saw her rod bend. I have only been fishing less than 2 years, but she had caught the largest Croaker that I have ever seen. She was jumping around like a little kid.
I put another shrimp on and cast it out and before I had a chance to get my rod and reel out of the truck she had another one. She had caught 6 Croaker before my line was in the water. I had just cast my line and heard the drag on her reel. I looked over and saw her rod really bent. When she finally got it reeled in she had a 18" Drum.
We left the park an hour and 35 minutes after arriving. We brought home 15 Croaker, 3 Drum, and 2 Flounder and released probably another 10-13 more fish, including 2 undersize Drum and 1 undersized Red. I only got a chance to cast my rod 3 times. I caught 1 Croaker, 1 Drum and 1 Flounder. All of the others were caught by my Grandma.
I have only been fishing maybe 20 times myself, but this was by far the most enjoyable of all. I love to watch my Grandma's excitement when she catches a fish. She, Grandpa, my Mom and I would eat fish every day if we had them.
If the weather is good Grandma, Grandoa and I are going to go back Thursday and I am going to take a camera with us.

great story! I search Anahuac Park as I have never heard of it. Just curious if I mapped the same place, is that on the East side of the bay?
Happy fishing!

Sorry, it's actually called Fort Anahuac Park. It is located at the far northeast of Trinity Bay.

Late Report....
My Grandma and I took my Grandpa and we went back Friday. I like this place because down a little way past the boat ramps there is a small fishing pier. The pier is wheel chair accessible, making it very easy for my Grandpa to get to the water to fish. Friday was as good as Wednesday was.
Grandma got too many Croaker to count, a Red and a Drum. Grandpa got some Croaker, a Red and 2 Flounder. I used 2 rods and got 4 Croaker and used some crappie jigs with plastics and got 3 Flounder. We only kept 12 Croaker this time and 1 Drum, 2 Reds and 5 Flounder. I gave the Croaker, Drum, 2 Reds and 2 Flounder to a neighbor who gave me a bunch of reels a few months back.
Grandma still can not cast yet and Grandpa is mostly paralized from a second stroke. So after catching a few fish, I spent a couple of hours just casting out their lines. I have as much fun watching their excitement as I do fishing.
Grandpa had his last stroke 11 weeks ago and this was his first time out of the house other than Dr appts. He smiled all day.
I am looking forward to taking them back one day next week.
Now a quick question. I have to cast out Grandpa's and Grandma's lines. He can almost get the fish reeled in, then I have to get it on the pier for him. Who is considered to have caught the fish. We can not afford for any of us to get a ticket.
Thanks, Jason

I personally don't think that a game warden would write a ticket to you are your grandpa if you were helping him catch fish. I believe any game warden will understand y'all's position.
Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.

If a game warden did ticket you any judge would dismiss it.
I used satellite a few months back to check that spot out for a neighbor who is in a wheelchair. We hope to get down there in Many. Leave a few fish.

My uncle took my Grandpa back again Friday. I did not go this time, I had 3 yards to mow. They had an excellent day. My uncle said that they caught a fish on almost every cast. This is what he said that they caught after he started keeping count. 64 Croaker (kept 10), 7 Reds (3 keepers), 4 Black Drum (3 keepers) and 2 18" Flounder.

The yellow X on the above photo shows where the small pier is located that we have been fishing on. We fished once on the long pier but did not catch any fish there.
