I went to watch the weight in and saw all of those big ole fish. I couldn't help myself. Had to go out that evening and almost got blown off the lake.

There are a couple of guys on here that frequent that lake and do pretty well. I have never fished there, only shot ducks (lots of ducks), but they do well and I think it is a good fishery.

Keep at it for sure. What type of electronics do you have? How are you trying to target these fish?

Bite on shad has slowed way down and its been easy to catch all I need in 3 throws and been catching more then I need switch the bait and started catching more. try cut perch and the smaller whole shad if you can get some smaller ones.

I can't seem to figure out how to use live perch either. I hear to hook em through the meat under and behind the dorsal fin, but they always seem to get off the hook that way.

Best way I've found is through the lip and up through the nostril.

I seem to do better on cut perch than even shad this year though.

If they are hooked correctly they WILL NOT come off. You probably aren't getting low enough, you can't just skim the top right under the fin. Go down some more and make sure it is in there. Also, be easier on your casts...just kinda lob it out there. We set lines quite often in the current, sometimes we still have perch the next mornin swimmin like they weren't even hooked.

Cut shad will usually catch more blue cats than live shad or perch.

Shad is over rated - it catches more skunks than catfish when I use it

I fish EM. I catch fish there often. Shad or perch work for me.

Lets go sometime and we'll see if you can catch one or 20.

If im going for channel its Sony's blood bait..blues I like big cut shad and cut buffalo esp in red river..flatheads we use live perch and try to catch our bait from the waterway we are fishing. Live bait we catch from the same waterway we fish usually lives longer on a hook. Never had a problem keeping live bait on a hook though since switching to circle hooks. Live baits will get knocked off and stolen by gar and grennel during the day.

Well if you've fished the whole lake then you would of found my fish lol! What electronics are you using? How are you fishing the shad? (Drifting, anchored up, slip bobber)? Lets start there.... haven't been out since last Saturday but I can tell you tomorrow and friday will be great days to get out of the race traffic and be on eagle.
