Funny story about how Big Bass Point on Ray Roberts got its' name. In the early days of Ray Roberts some of the early guides were gathered up by the map maker "Hot Spot", If you have seen the Hot Spot maps they will litterally put a fish symbol on the map and tell you what times of the year that area produces best. Well one of the guides had taken a client to where Isle Debouis meets up with Buck Creek on the north side and they proceeded to have one of those 100 fish day trips. Every time the guide would go back to the spot that same client was there. So he decided to name the point big bass point thinking it would draw thousands of first timers there and ruin the spot for him. True Story!

There is a video out in the world of Casey Allison (i think) interviewing Bill Wilcox and he talks about alot of the names of some of the holes on Ray Bob. Its pretty interesting.

One of the moderators on this forum. Kind of a dork from what a mutual friend tells me, but a damn nice guy!

Actually, it was Lake Products map. Forrest Fritcher and Bill teamed up to come up with most of those names. They tried to use some names from the locals, but since neither grew up around the lake, they got some of them wrong. Back in the day, if you knew where the "Tournament Hole", the "Good Hole", "Lindy's Lunch Hole", or the most famous, "The Thirty-one" was, you were running with the right guys.

I have had lunch with Lindy at the Lunch Hole and caught bass with him. I have fished 31 but never caught anything from there.
Don't know about the others.

There are a lot more, and they all have good stories of how they got their names. But, they are just ghosts of what they were in the nineties.

Yea he doesnt mention any of those. He does talk about magic tree, Roy's spinnerbait hole, Clarks, etc. Also talks bout how they would tube fish all over the lake before ramps were open. Pretty cool.

Having fished RB often in the 90s I agree, I always had good to very good days. Now you're lucky to have 1 good day out of five. It's sad how RB has dropped off. Not even close to what it once was.

I wouldn't say it is that bad I've been out there about 7 days in the last 5 weeks and only 1 day that I didn't have over 22 pounds with my best five. I've also caught an abundance of 21/2 pounders so there is a good age structure on the lake also. I'm not saying its better or worse than the 90's just that there still aren't too many lakes around that you can catch some true giants on.

I think RB was an expeiment by the TP&WD that has failed results. It was a great lake in the 90's and then it seems after they had a Golden Alge fish kill and then the drought that killed all of that Hydrilla west of Wolf Island late 90's that it seemed as though TP&WD didn't stock any fish in it and, it just got worse and worse. Finally TP&WD gave up on their study, dropped the slot and started stocking it in the last two years.

I agree with you but....In the late 90s my best bag of 5 fish went 35 lbs with my 6th best fish still a 5lber. All caught in an hour and 45 minutes in a 80 yard stretch bank up in Indian creek. Cant be done today, at least not by me.
