Ok so I did a post last week about this kid that I’m trying to mentor well just be there for him and helping him get into the crazy thing we love so much! I have this lake I love for offshore bass. He’s already got his first 5lb girl so now he’s hooked. I blew past the lake to check water temp and how stained it was and did a little side viewing to find this spot of a creek channel. I know now would be the time for them to be possible shallow but not on this lake. We get there and I keep of the spot and he’s pointing at this bank and that laydown and I’m trying to keep him patient. Just trying to give the other boats their time to get back into the shallows and coves. I’m explain to him that these fish are going to fight different with the water temp up 20 degrees (in the low 60’s) I trying to get him to slow his retrieve to try and get her to choke it….not have it on the side of the mouth for an easier toss of the crank. I’m Telling him I may be able to put him on a Double digit. Well it happened but with the wrong end result. I felt bad because I got a little flustered and excuse the language in the video. It’s been a minute since I’ve seen a ten and when she came up I was like “Yes”! we don’t run across Double D’s like you guys do! Just curious if I was to hard on him. He told me that he didn’t think he was ready and I didn’t think about the possibility of a negative effect of him losing a fish like that. frown So all this week yes been calling apologizing. I’ve just been telling him that’s fishing ! Tried to redeem my self but losing a fish like that is hard. At the end of the day we were laughing so I figured all was well. Again excuse a few brief curse words don’t know how to bleep stuff out yet.
oh i know you don't see her but she was huge! i can't definitely say she was over ten. but fish and wildlife were out the previous week and one of the guys i know told me they shocked 3 over 15lbs and a bunch of ten plus.
lost DD

I didn't think you were too hard on him you were giving some much needed advice to a new guy on landing a big fish. With that being said the wound may have been to fresh for him to want to hear it lol. When me and my dad lost a ten pounder in our boat one day the dialogue made yours look like a saints lol. I would just reiterate to him that that is going to happen and you have to take the good with the bad.

That does suck. I've been fortunate to have caught a DD but I had a lunker on the other end and watched her jump 5 or 6 times. She spit the hook about a foot outside the reach of the net and it still haunts me to this day. That was 5 or 6 years ago but I keep searching for another on and I know one day it will come. Him just hooking that fish should have been enough to. Have him hooked. Its a great thing that you are doing for him and don't get down on yourself. Keep it up!

That's nothing compared to what me and my buddies do when we lose good fish. I can't beleive you and him both kept your composure that well! Someone woulda had to drag me off that spot cause I woulda stayed their all day! You gave him good advice and that's how we all learned. Didn't look like he was to upset at you. Y'all were still laughing that's what makes the trip right there just being out and having fun!

Ive had a similar situation happen to me in a tournament where I hooked a giant. I got her all the way to the boat and my dad missed the dip with the net. She shoots underneath the boat and heads toward the back. She then wraps around the prop about 3 times and the line went slack. I had the sickest feeling in the world. I threw my rod down and start pacing in the boat. When I raise the motor and get line off, she takes off again!! She was still there! I eventually get her in the boat and have the biggest sigh of relief. She went 9.91 and is the fish in my picture.

Great story. These big bass can cause emotional stress, no doubt.
