Seems like I remember it took 1,000 hours on Fork to catch a 10lb. fish. I could be wrong so I need to check Google to see if that number is correct.

Kd,
If your numbers are correct and it takes on average 10,000 hours at Fork to catch a DD fish and I take my two weeks vacation every year on Fork and fish 80 hours a week I will catch 1 DD for every 125 years I fish Fork.

Your are leaving out all the other man hours of the rest of the people fishing who don't catch one. You may catch 2 during your vacation but your hours still have to be factored into the rest of ours.

Someone like Pack and other guides may catch double digit fish more frequently than every 10k hours individually, but factor in the rest of us and I bet the numbers are pretty close.

Kd,
The 1,000 hours I remember included all fishermen including novices and guides. Without the catches of the guides ,I am sure the numbers would be a lot worse. At 1,000 hours for a 10 lb. fish, the average fisherman fishing 80 hours a year would catch 1 ten lb. fish in 12.5 years.

I posted this on facebook before I ever saw the tournament results. "I don't understand why fisherman prefish so hard on hourly big bass tournaments. We have had a 12, 2 11lbers, 3 10lbers and 2 9lb overs weighed by anglers prefishing. I think I would rather fish blind than to beat up my fishing spots for two days."

We had 8 overs weighed in 3 of prefishing leading up to the tournament. Weighed, not reported. We had a TON of fish reported.

2 anglers one day brought in 12.36 and 9.69.

Next morning the same angler that had the 9.69 had a 10.26.

Seems like people put in a lot more effort in prefishing....or just burn up the water. Fork will churn out a few more big fish before the season is over.

Good point Cam. A lot of tournament fishermen wear their spot out before the tournament ever starts.
