First of all let me say just so all of you know my opinion of the -jig-. "I HATE IT" Now on with the story. Went fishing with my old tournement partner that I havent fished with in a couple of years due to school and families. We had a good time. But once again he was throwing what he refers to as "OLE FAITHFUL" AND "OLE FAITHFUL" (1/2 oz.jewel football head PB&J W/ rage craw trailer) was producing again and again. I knew he would do this and this result would happen, so I purchased several before we went. To take any differences out I even tied on the exact colr, lbs. test and brand of line he was using. I watched his retrieve studied everything I could with zero I mean ZERO results. I even asked to use his rig to see if it was just me or what. Well guess what its just me. I did see a big difference however in the rods. He was using a Falcon CARA where I was throwing a BPS Bionic blade(both rods stating they have the same action) Not sure how many of you are out there that have felt this way before? I know alot of the big fish have been landed on the -jig-. If so what helped your hatred towards this awful bait that smokes me every time. What is your rod of choice or jig of choice. Help me regain my pride!!!!!

Pick a good jig lake. Take a couple of good m/h rods and no baits but jigs and trailers. Pitch to every stump, bush, boat dock, etc. until you catch a few fish. Vary the way you work the jig until you figure out how they want it. Sometimes they will thump it, sometimes it just feels heavy or you see your line swimming off. When in doubt, set the hook!

Do what forkdaddy suggested....that's how I learned too. The fish in my signature was caught on a Talon finesse jig with a baby brushhog trailer. I pinched off the first 1/2 inch of the bbh so only the legs kicked behind the skirt.
I would start with a finesse jig and do as described but if you think you are moving too slow, slow down more. The other type jig I fish a lot is one with an 'Arkie' style head. They seem to work over just about any cover except heavy grass, and land with the trailer up all the time.
Keep trying if you are serious about wanting to learn jig fishing, but I have had the exact same thing happen to me multiple times and find that if I start following someone else, it just ends in frustration. fish your way and have fun.

Maybe try using a smaller profile Jig until you build confidence. Try a 3/8 or 1/2 ounce jig with skirt trimmed at the bend of the hook + a 2-3" trailer like a pinched off chigger craw in a color you're confident in. You may be surprised I have hooked some big fish on 5/16 flipping jigs with itty bitty stanley craw trailers. Make sure to keep your line somewhat tight and just follow it down with the rod tip as a jig bite can be super tough to feel. Oh yea watch your line like a hawk and dont be afraid to set the hook on anything that feels weird.
I tend to use the larger profile stuff around rip rap and rock piles so the jig is still visable when it falls into cracks and what not and the smaller profile stuff for everything else. Once you do get some jig fish you probably will be addicted to jig fishing, it's hard for me to put down my jig rods!

Help me regain my pride!!!!! had the same thing happen to me on Palestine during a club tourney, had zero luck all day, I became the net boy, finally hooked up after he just landed a 6lb er and it was a 7lb grinnel, with 10 minutes left in the tournament!!! Sometimes fish hate you, nothing you can do about it.
I will be back. I'm never truly gone.....Last post by Brad RIP

You have to commit to a jig. Its not a few casts and put it down deal.

Not sure how he was fishing it. But the reel speed is a big factor when swimming or crawling a jig.

Another question Do colors of jigs really matter that much or if they want a jig they will hit it. I am going to make a good jig man out of myself. Deffanitaly like the idea of only having a few rods and baits to choose from and quit playing rod roulette Thanks for the advice

You can catch fish anywhere on just 3-4 colors of jigs if that is all you wanted. A black/blue, a green and a brown pattern will be plenty. Throw in a white jig and you are set.

I also would suggest trying a finese jig, like a 3/16 oz. Strike King Bitsy Bug or a Booyah Baby Boo jig. Use a small trailer like a Paca chunk. You can catch all sizes of bass on this rig. Green pumpkin is hard to beat. Watch for line movement and/or feel the "tap".
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

best advice is to throw it in a pound to feel what the bite feels like, then start with smaller sized jigs in shallow water. Its overwhelming to a new jig guy to throw a jig and drag it in 20ft of water but you can swim one, or work it like a t rig in shallow water. My first jig bite came using a biffle bug trailer. you can swim it or hop it. might help increase the versatility of it instead of being limited to dragging. hope you get that first big fish on one, its a rush.

Starting with a small jig definitely builds confidence. Heck, try some strike king bitsy flips in your local pond. When you catch a few, you'll get addicted
