I like the shotgun take-offs, im usually in front of the pack. What i dont understand is when you see the guys with the little boats with 150's sitting in front of the pack right before take-off. They know they are going to get past and maybe wet, so stay in the back of the pack and let the big boys battle it out. Just my opinion..... I got that little 18' boat that will run 70+ most 20' with 200hp can't hang so am my supposed to stay at back and get soaked so the big boys can lead the way and soak my a** Most 20ft boats now have 250's on them. And yes if you wanna take off and run with the big boys then you will get your a** soaked. I had an 18 ft that would run 70 and although it was lightning fast out of the hole, it wasnt long before i was being passed by the big boats and catching spray. Not trying to start an argument here but the boats that are running into the mid 70s, which is 90% of them around here, and want to run WOT then they should be out in the front of the pack. And I dont mind letting them go and battle it out, as i cruise right by them. LOL!!!!

I did see all you "Big Boys" roll in behind us. Maybe you are scared to run in the timber with your fancy boats.

Wow, we had to start drawing boat numbers in our Wednesday night tournaments because the shotgun starts were getting a little hairy with 30+ boats.

Have been in many shotgun starts. It can get really hairy on Pines running from south to north when there are 50 boats racing to the poles and everyone has to funnell down to the boat lane.A guy lost power at wide open one time in the poles and it was a rodeo from there out ,people taking evasive action ,running through timber and such. No thanks on shotgun starts.

There was a fellow killed on Murvaul I think it was in the 80s. He got tossed out of the boat he was riding in and one of the boats behind him ran over him. I don't mind shotgun starts but you need to know your limitations on how fast your boat is and how well you can handle it in all them wakes. If you want to be the first one to start fishing, drop your trolling motor and start where everyone just took off from.

I remember a shotgun start at Rayburn back in the day. We took off and Harold Allen and his Skeeter passed me and wetted us down pretty good. I decided, from then on, I would have a faster boat.
