Postponed Thursdays trip due to cold and three little girls going on the boat.

Friday I had Matt and Morgan, from near Rosenberg, out for a morning on Lake Somerville. I was surprised at how the previous days cold and north wind moved the fish. We searched the shallows where I have been finding the fish a few days previous, and came up empty after several stops.

So, we headed to 15 foot water, around structure, and put out some chum. The first spot produced 18 fish with one Blue cat going 5#. The next stop, the bite was good, with a north wind, then when the winds shifted to the south, the bite went south too. Did get another nice blue there.

Ended the morning with 34 cats. All caught on tight lines, in 15 foot water, using CJ's Crawdad punch bait.

Saturday I had Terry and his son Wyatt, also from Rosenberg area, for their annual father son trip.
We fished the opposite end of the lake, from Friday, and tried three stops in the shallows, only to have an empty cooler. We headed for deeper water, 8 foot this time, and found some willing cats.

Terry caught the largest, at 5.5#, while Wyatt had fun tending the dip net.
White caps were blowing pretty good by the time we left the water.

They ended the morning with 33 nice cats for the cleaning table.
All fish caught on tight lines, in 8 foot water, using CJ's Crawdad punch bait.

Hi there. I have not done cat fishing for. What does tight line mean? is that the same as trot line?

Means no float. Fishing with just the bait and weight. I usually put the hook about a foot above the weight so it stays off the hard bottom.

A tight line, simply weight, then swivel, then leader then hook. When you cast out, you keep your line tight enough to feel the sinker, then when the fish bites, you will feel the jerk.

Great job Weldon. I went Friday and what a nice day to be on the lake. However the fishing wasn't.I didn't know where the fish was anymore. They definitely moved. That's why I'm not a guide and you are. Thanks for the report.Makes sense to me now.
