I have a question for all you drop-shotters. Do yall cast and retrieve your rig, or do you cast and let it sit? I've read where yall use the dropshot rig, but I didn't know if it was a stationary tactic, or a moving tactic. I'm going out on an area lake tomorrow to chase crappie and bluegill, and thought I might try out a new technique. Thanks for the input.

So far I have just let it sit there and they hit it.

I wouldn't consider myself a pro... but I would cast it out (depending where I was fishing 5-20 ft from the boat), let it sit and then slowly bump it along the bottom till I got bit. Usually I didn't have to wait too long for a bite

This rig used to give me a headache when I first started to use it. I was making long casts with it and retrieving it back in slowly like draging a grub. That's not really what this rig does well. It's primarily a verticle, sublte to no movement rig. If I cast it at all, it's mostly just pitches and I let it sink all the way to the bottom, reel up the slack to make sure I've got a semi-slack line and just wait a while. If I don't get a bite for a couple minutes, I may jiggle the rod tip a little bit, but no more. Still no bite, I reel in and make another pitch cast. The deeper the water, the more this rig shines. It can be great in shallow water to, but is better used in depper water. Anything that has a quivering tail is a great choice to terminate this rig. A fairly heavy drop shot weight will help you feel bottom and bites better. Pineapple, cylinder, tungsten and other drop shot specific weights help to differentiate feeling the bottom from feeling actual bites.

Thanks for the input guys! I was thinking about working a stretch of riprap with a dropshot rig. It sounds like using a dropshot to fish the tailout where the riprap meets the bottom of the lake would work out well (mechanically that is).

I fish regular with Mike "USMC_GY" and Fred "Rionator" and they use the heck out of the drop shot. They have retrieved it after casting or by flipping it. They have also let it just sit on the bottom for awhile. Either way those guys out fish me 5 to 1 just about every time. I am stuck on the old fashioned bottom technique. (Straight sinker bouncing it off of the bottom). I have used that method for years and that is more comfortable for me. I don't complain one bit on the results I have gotten.

The drop shot is the way to go. I cast it and retrieve it at various speeds depending on conditions and the bite. I also just leave it on the bottom. Great results. I have fished with worms,minnows,and artificial baits using the drop shot and again have met with great results.

VMC has a new Spinshot hook for soft plastic baits. I'm going to try it tomorrow. I might even try it with 1/2 of a live nightcrawler. Normally, I place the sinker about 10" below the hook. This was for photo purpose:

Fishing a drop shot is simply FANTASTIC! Caught a lot of bass using the method. Retrieve it at different speeds depending on bite and water conditions.

What does a drop shot look like. Sounds interesting to me I want to try it but I don't know what to do.

used it at Spring Creek this weekend caught about 12-15 bass all big all healthy , drop shot works great . I was wondering about trying it for crappie and white bass , with the appropriate lure.

Oh and tell me how that hook works out . Ive always thought the knots are the weakest part of the line and I just dont like tying the hook twice like that .
