Guys, wondering if anyone has experience with this. My ducer went out on me and i am wanting to install one on the outside this time but i have a caution notice that states "do not drill in hull without removing gas tank". Have any of you seen this or noticed it and if so how did you remedy the situation?
Boat is 95 champion 204 elite.
thanks, Simon

Why do you think you need to mount it outside? Bad decision....
You'll get much better results using slow cure epoxy (24 hour) or fiberglass resin (my choice) and going thru hull than the flaky results of sticking it outside.
That year champ, the tank rests against the transom, hence the warning. But regardless, your results will be way better on the inside.

I guess im just doubting myself since the one that was inside the hull is not good anymore. Any certain tips to using the resin when doing this?
On a sidenote, i play foosball with Tom every other week. He has mentioned some of yalls fishing trips.
thanks, simon

Clean the area to be used with acetone, give it a nice once-over with sandpaper to make sure you've got a clean area to bond to.
I make a small dam with duct tape to hold the resin, pour in the resin, then tape the transducer down and let it cure overnight.
Remember air is your enemy, sonar works through water, resin, fiberglass, but never through air bubbles. The resin is thin enough to allow bubbles to escape before it cures up, so a much better signal. When you hang it off the transom, it's just going to be in bubble heaven, and your signal will suffer at any decent speed.

take this advice, just remember to mount it about 10" in front of the drain plug, this will keep it in the water when on plane
