not related to tournaments, but related to tin boats.. check out some of Andrew Grills (pardon the spelling) first posts.

Doesnt matter what you fish out of, if you enjoy fishing.

I have a pretty mediocre bass boat (15ft 1998 polar kraft aluminum bass boat with a 40 hp Mercury). I've looked at photos from club tournament weigh ins and the parking lots look like bass boat dealerships to me...lots of super nice rigs. Do low brow folks with low brow boats fish in club tournaments? Do you look like a schmuck if you show up in a dinky aluminum bass boat? Just wondering.

Use what you have to your advantage them glass boy's can't go where you can.
I fish out of a 19 foot xpress go places that I wouldn't dare take the champion I fished out of to.

Take what you have and go enjoy! Anyone that looks down on you isn't much of a man or woman and for sure not a true sportsman! Life is short take your shot!

What they all said about go on and enjoy fishing out of your boat. One thing no one mentioned though, just check out the rules before you pay money to join a club or start on a trail. Most, if not all require horsepower to be at or under boat rating. You should be good on that. Also a working livewell and kill switch, and possibly other requirements. I know at least one requires factory installed gas tank(s), no portables. Just hate to see you pay money only to find out your boat doesn't meet their rules.

Hi Bug-e

I'm a relatively new fisherman and joined my first bass club this year (2 tournaments so far). I had many of the same concerns you mentioned prior to joining. I've met some really good guys who are willing to provide guidance to the newbees and have fished two lakes I never would have considered previously. There's a wide range in age of boats and fishermen and everyone has been really helpful and respectful.

Join and kick their butts!

Good fishing

Thanks for the info. Clubs seem to vary a little bit on some of these. My boat is rated for my engine and I have a working live well, but I don't have a kill switch on my ' 98 Mercury. I am going to check into installing one...I've actually been wanting to do this just for safety sake. I even have a factory installed gas tank...maybe my boat isn't all that low brow after all! smile

Thanks again.

Brazos anglers, Bryan bass club and Brazos valley bass club. Take you pick. Brazos anglers fish bass federation and club tourneys. All clubs have good guys.

Dude, I started fishing in the 60's in a green fiberglass boat, front steering with my dad. We caught fish at Monticello, Hubbard, Lake Kaufman and who knows where else.

I started at Fork in a 2 man Bass Buster, then brand new Silver 1986 Skeeter, 1986 Gold Skeeter and an Astro. Whatever I get in nowadays doesn't matter as long as it FLOATS!

I understand your question but if I cared what people thought about what I drove or fished out of, I'd never get near a lake. Just make sure you have a good working live well, lights and so on! There are many sites on the web for Tournament Check Lists to help you make sure you have everything on board. GO FOR IT!

Anglers are 99.5% great folks top to bottom.
Ignore the rest! Hope that helps.

My first tournament in the early 80's I fished out of a 1960's super skeeter with a 9 hp evinrude. Had a ball and no one looked at me funny. Go fish !!

As long as you have a live well, kill switch, all the required state and club regs go fish. Check into being a non boater also. Being in a club gives you a chance to learn quite a bit

I used to fish the Lake Conroe Ignition Bass circuit out of an aluminum boat half the time about 4 to 5 years. It seems like every one on that lake runs a high dollar boat with twin power poles and wears a jersey (yep, I said that). I had a blast taking some of their money and winning AOY out of an aluminum boat. I think it made it more fun the days we left my partners glass boat at home and fished the tournaments out of my aluminum boat.
