WHATS EVERYONES OPINION ON CRAPPIE CABIN PLACEMENT? WHAT CONSIDERATION SHOULD YOU TAKE FOR THE LOW LAKE LEVELS NOW AND IF LAKE LEVELS COME UP.

I drop mine near creek channels. Usually in 16'-20' of water. That way, come spring time, they're producing good numbers. I know some folks drop some in 40' of water for summertime fishing. Doesn't hurt to do both.

Depends on your lake and where the thermocline is in the summer. The 16-20' structure produced well last year for me. The fish were deeper in the winter but not by much in the lakes I fished.

Most of the very knowledgeable members have already posted this information and have done so numerous times. Try using that finicky search feature and you can wade through the posts. Also, be patient it sometimes takes a while to get really good advice as the true experts are out working or fishing or both.

IMHO i would think depending on the lake level
and when you want to go ketchn
would be a big the part of the deciding factors
without specifics ...
a 15 to 20 foot deep ledge right on the edge of a deeper channel ....

From the article - "Fish have their own agenda. So learn the agenda first, then drop a brushpile or 12. Or 20. "

http://www.in-fisherman.com/2011/10/30/the-brushpile-file-for-crappies/

Not specific to our region but good info scattered within the article.

I am no expert but I have had good success in putting out brush and catching fish off of it. I don't think it hurts to get on here and ask questions and get other peoples advice but you will learn more from trial and error or getting lucky and finding a knowledgable source on your waters to show you the ropes. Most people want to know a magic depth that always produces well it doesn't exist. I like the same 15-22 fow that most have referred to but I put brush out from 5' to 25' and everywhere in-between. If all you do is sink 1 or 2 piles in 20' and think you will be successful get ready to get your feelings hurt on a regular basis. If crappie fishing is going to be your thing and you want to be successful I recommend having 10-15 spots in every water depth. Crappie fishing is like everything else you get back just as much as you put into it. Sure anyone can go and catch a few every once in a while but the guys that are successful on a daily basis are putting in the work to do so. Good luck

Clay

Some general info applies to most lakes. When water warms, the crappie move toward shallow water following channels. After the spawn, they move back out and generally follow those same routes. Crappie hang in 15ft or less about 6-9 months of the year. Where the thermocline sets up on your particular lake is a big key for summer fishing. The thermocline is usually no more than 18ft deep on almost all lakes, usually around 12-18ft. I'd put piles close to channels in 10-14FOW. Also, natural breaks in the contours can be a good place. Drop offs and ledges not close to a channel are also good. There's no way to compensate for the varying lake levels except put out lots of piles in several depths as Clay83 said. Good luck and good fishing.

If u have a good map and sonar brush near a sharp bend in a channel can be good. Also big flats can be made fruitful with brush. Consider prevailing wind direction. Try various depths. You mainly need a lot piles in varying depths and locations. Don't put brush out that will be hazardous to navigation in low water and don't put it near docks where somebody swimming might get in it. Use some sense be persistent and work hard at it and you'll be successful and learn a lot. Pay attention to what you're doing and people will be asking you for advice before long.

I don't live for the thump, but I sure do like it.
