I recently purchased a used boat and have been searching for a depth finder with the GPS option. I have read multiple reviews and rankings and have found Lowrance to be one of the brands most popular. At the coast I will mostly be fishing the flats and bays but will attempt the closer rigs on calmer days. I am outfitted with down riggers and will also be chasing stripper, hybrids, white bass and fresh water reds when not down at the coast. Any advise or recommendations would greatly be appreciated. My budget is about $500 or so and would be willing to wait and save up a lil more money if needed. Thank y'all in advance.

If I was fishing the flats I would save up and purchase the Hbird 360 so you can see what is around you at all time while out on the flats. I would be cool seeing that rig structure and what is around it also.

humminbird 788ci hd, 700.00 and will do everything you are saying you want, its not down or side image but a good gps/finder.
I have one in the dash of my champion and use it while on plane since my di/si won't work above about 6mph.

I highly recommend the Humminbird series 587ci HD with Down Imaging for 450.00

If your budget can handle it, the 788ci HD with Down Imaging for 800.00 is an awesome unit.

The down imaging isn't helpful for the flats, but great around structure.

Look into the The Elite-7. It is a wonderful unit, GPS, crisp screen, Down Imaging, and very easy to use. You can't go wrong with H'bird or Lowrance, but this one has a lot to offer and at a good price.

I agree with you Capt. about DI not being useful for the flats.

Regardless of the manufacture, lowrance or humminbird, get the biggest screen you can afford even if you have to save for awhile. You will be glad you did. Those small screens are hard to read all it is trying to tell you.
